Greeting Ladies, I just moved here about two months ago and found out my daughter had contracted Mollucum very awful. But the problem is I need a good education lesson to start teaching here since we are getting board here and I don't take her to really play with kids until its gone. Any suggestion on getting a program or home school lesson to help my child.

Hi S.,

I am a mom that homeschooled for many years. You do not need to "educate" a 2 year old. She is learning at a fantastic rate all on her own. If you have time on your hands, the activity that little ones like best and learn from is helping mommy. Involve her in folding clothes, baking, making dinner, setting the table, sweeping, working in the garden.....let her plant her own little garden. If you don't have a yard, she can plant in little pots. If you are paying bills, give her her own little "check book" and let her "pay bills" too. You get the drift. I used to let my daughter "wash the dishes", then I'd mop the floor with the water that was all over the kitchen.

For other activities....read and read and read! I wish I had the time to do that with my kids! That is the best education you can give her. Make play dough together and then let her play for hours! Put her in the tub with plastic tubs of water and all kinds of plastic cups, bottles, bowls, etc. Let her go crazy! You could even get some water soluble, non toxic paints and let her paint the shower and herself, then rinse it all away. Get mega blocks and let her build a castle. Buy a plastic magnifying glass and take a walk around the neighborhood, examining flowers, bugs, grass. Let her go at her own pace and you'll be gone all day.

She will love just being with you and exploring the world!

Find your closest Lakeshore Learning Store, take out your wallet and have a ball. You should find almost everything you need for the next 10 years.

They have a website too. http://www.lakeshorelearning.com

There is one in Carson and one in West LA (my favorite one). They have others, but these are my closest ones. This is one place where teachers and schools shop.

She is 2. The best educational tool is play. You don't need flashcards, workbooks, etc.. She'll learn best while playing in her world. Some of the best things you can do to promote learning are, reading to her everyday, listen/sing a long with music and dance, paint, dress up and block play.

Best wishes,
M.

Both of my children contracted molluscum. It's a very common virus but only a small percentage of children come down with it. Check with your pediatrician but I think keeping your daughter indoors isn't necessary.

My three-year-old daughter had it for a year but it went away this summer. At one point she had over 300. My five-year-old son got it from my daughter and still has it. It's coming up on a year and I'm hoping it goes away soon too.

We we're careful to keep any that were bleeding covered with a waterproof band-aid, washed their hands a lot and didn't share clothing or towels with anyone. They still went to school, played and lived their normal lives and no one else came down with it.

Good luck!

Hey S.,

Regarding the molluscum, if a child's immunity is compromised it could take many, many months to disappear. I would recommend seeing a good classical homeopath to help clear this a LOT sooner. I can refer you to one who practices in Santa Monica if you are interested in pursuing this.

Best,

I use Mother Goose Time Preschool Curriculum with my daycare kids, starting at about 2 1/2. I really like it. Its more than just letters, numbers, and shapes.
