Lactivists Gone Wild?

If the idea is to promote acceptance of breastfeeding in public, I'm fine with that. If it's to say "we're superior" in some way to those who bottlefeed, no.

I will be giving my support at my local Latch On... mainly because my oldest weaned at 4.5 y/o (she's almost 6 y/o now) and my new baby I was hoping to breastfeed at that time still won't cooperate and be born!!

I am always in support in bringing attention and awareness to breastfeeding.

What if their babies aren't hungry at that specific hour :)

I guess we'll know where all the 14 year old boys will be during that time. :)

I BF for two years and HATED doing it in public. He never wanted to be covered and would pull anything I put over him.

Give huge props to those that can do it!

I understand it - some people are offended at breast feeding. It's just a way to get people with the same mindset together and show people that nothing is wrong with it. It's not illegal. It's not harmful. Don't like it - don't go. I would totally go (but I have a 5 year old now and that would just be strange :)...she's been weaned for 4 years!)

It's better then those wackos at the Westboro Church - now that's a harmful, offensive group of people.

i would absolutely support this. it's a show of solidarity, as well as a just-for-fun record breaking thing. women are still victimized for nursing in public or at work, even though it is the best thing for their babies and for their bodies. so, yeah, latch on!

Pretty funny :) I'd go. It's no wierder than a lot of the other wierd things that people do to break world records, and it's kindof a commercial for a good thing to do for your infant. Have fun :)

Thanks for the link, I need to avoid wherever they will be. I've been accosted by crazy breastfeeders one too many times, to go anywhere near something like this.

I don't know if I would participate personally but I don't see anything wrong with it. It's just a way for nursing moms to support and promote the practice of breastfeeding as a healthy lifestyle choice :)

Forget odd or unnecessary, my immediate thought was "yeah right, half the babies won't be hungry at the time!" LOL

I would totally go! To me, it is akin to a concert or something similar I would attend - a bunch of peope gathering for a specific cause or similar idea and having a good time! What could be wrong with that? Although, I would probably feel like I usually do in a big group of women - like the odd girl out with the small, barely C cups even when nursing. =)

I think our country needs to break away from the "boobies are scary in public" and "nursing past a year is creepy" ideas. Go moms!

I think its great! We live in the land of the FREE. People should be FREE to choose whether they do this or not---or something else. There are lots of things I find odd, but I would never infringe my beliefs on someone because they wanted to do it. Live and LET live. I would go if I was still breastfeeding--Why? It sounds fun! A whole community of moms and potential new best friends with kiddos too boot. Fun for everyone and all for a great cause--promoting breastfeeding.

Would I go? NO, I'm sick of the superior type attitude I see from some, not all, BF'rs.

I would avoid this type of event.

maybe unnecessary - not sure what point they are trying to make other than a ton of W. can and do breast feed....

Oh well...like LL&LI said - we're still a free country - and would support them.

I find it neither odd nor unnecessary. I might go, one to meet other moms and two to support breastfeeding, as I feel people often feel unsupported and that is often a reason why people stop earlier than they might with support. Trying to break a world record is fun, too. People do all sorts of things for world records.

HAHA! Nice. I did the Great Diaper Change and I had a blast! We set a record of the most diapers changed at one time. Sadly it said "diaper" not "cloth diaper" so we are redoing it :D which I'm not sad about, I just hope we can break our last one!! lol
Oh and we have a breastfeeding cafe somewhere in SLC. If I had a baby that was still nursing, I would be there!

I had heard of something like this while watching the Doctor's (not sure if it was a rerun or not). However, the women were in Canada and they were protesting that a mother was asked to leave a store because she was feeding, so mothers came together and put together a sit-it at the same store. I have not heard of this in the US.

I may have done it when I was a bf mama ... I worked in a little botique targeted towards breastfeeding mama's; I would not be surprised to find them being a location supporting this event. I would also probably participate.

I don't have a problem with it, but I've never had a bad experience. I nursed in public all the time. I got a few uncomfortable looks from teenage boys, but I wasn't at all surprised. I supposed some moms aren't as lucky as I was.

I checked out the website and it looks like a great event. I was unable to breastfeed and had issues with the nursing nazis in the hospital, but I think it's not a bad idea to bring awareness to the benefits of breastmilk.

Would love to see the final numbers for how many mom actually come to this!
