Does any one know of a good marker to label kids school clothes? My Grandaughter will start kindergarten in Sept. and we need to label all of her clothes and things.
If any one has any information on how to do this and with which products I would very much appreciate it. :)

Honestly, I'd either use a Sharpie and re-write it after every few washes (which I do for my son's pre-school blankets), or buy some labels like one of these:

i always used sharpies...they are permanent and have a variety of colors and they even have metallic ones that show up on darker colors...it lasted through both my girls things when they went to kindergarden last year.
Sharpie markers work very well and come in all kinds of lovely colors now. If you don't want to write directly on the clothes, you can make little labels out of an old sheet or pillowcase, mark them, and sew them into her clothes.

Hi, They have laundry markers for clothing at sewing, craft or drug stores. I have used them and they work good. And just an fyi, I did watch a special on keeping your kids safe once and they said that children's clothing and backpacks or lunch boxes should never be labeled on the outside where it is highly visible for safety reasons so that a stranger could use their name to gain their trust. They also said if possible to just use initials. Hope this helps.

Black sharpie on the tag
Another thought-keep the fancy jackets and sweaters at home. But some lower priced items to wear at school. Then it isn't so bad if it gets lost. I always use a shapee on the tag. Embroidering things is a great idea too.
Sharpie markers work wonders on labeling clothing. You can purchase them at any office supply store.
I never use Sharpies because they rub off and the letters blend together. We have a Rub-A-Dub marker from years ago that we still use and it works great - it's made for exactly this purpose.

Sharpies work great for that sort of thing. They don't come out in the washer, although the ink bleeds a bit, but not onto other clothing.

The Sharpie Rub-A-Dub Marker has worked wonders for our family. It is especially made for marking clothes. I bought the fine marker, but that one after a few good washes faded. So, I switched to the medium Sharpie Rub-A-Dub Marker and that one worked even better. Hope that helps and best wishes to your granddaughter starting Kindergarten.

I'm planning on getting my daughters winter jacket and maybe a sweatshirt or two embroidered with her initials. I've seen it done before and it looks so nice.

Permanent markers worked fine for me, even with washing. They may fade a bit by the end of the school year but it's still readable. Use a fine or medium point.
Sharpee pen. You can buy it anywhere.
I know that I am late in responding, but I wanted to add my two cents in :). I love the different colored fine tip sharpies, they work on everything and the fine tip is much easier to read after the ink "bleads" a little. The other thing that my daughter just LOVED was on her non clothes type items was stickers! We got the abc stickers and used them to put her name on her folders and pencil boxes then we used her favorite characters to decorate them! This really added to the uniqueness of what was hers before she knew all the letters in her name! Good luck!
I just take a fine tip sharpie marker and put my sons name on the inside tag of all his clothes. Once it dries it doesn't come off on the clothes even when in the wash. I also use a medium tip sharpie marker for all his snack bags and sippy cups.
Gotta love those sharpie pens when they are used for the right reasons (Sharpie marker all over sons mouth at age 1 was not fun to rub off).
My kids preschool, for fundraising, was introduced by a mom to www.stuckonyou.biz. The main purpose for writing the names is for when the child forgets a jacket or leaves it behind. Then the teacher can identify it.
You can find Sharpies almost anywhere - Target, stationery stores, drug stores, etc.

Honestly, Judy, a black Sharpie will do just fine. It's your easiest and cheapest option. They are permanent and won't harm the clothing if you mark your granddaughter's name on the care tag. The regular size Sharpies are sometimes too large to write an entire name, so I would recommend a fine point permanent marker, if you have one. If not, use the regular size and write your granddaughter's initials. I have been a kindergarten teacher for 6 years, and ANY information marked -- initials or full name -- helps me to return lost items. Enjoy your granddaughter's first year of school. This will be a special year for her!
P.S. You are way ahead of other families in preparing for kindergarten. Many parents do not take the time to label their children's possessions. I end up giving many nice pieces of clothing to charity each year because they are unmarked and no one claims them. Your granddaughter's teacher will appreciate your effort tremendously!
