Here's the deal, we have one cat and I swear she makes my whole house stink and the smell wont go away. LOL. We have the litter box with the top and I change it every Tuesday and scoop it several times a week. I also use the Arm & Hammer deodorizer.

What brand litter do you use and does it work on the odors?

What can I do next?

I have some DINK friends who swear by the pearls. I don't know the brand but try googling cat litter pearls.
They would not use anything else, and this is with a couple cats.

I use Fresh Start that clumps. We only have one cat, and I change it about every 3-4 days--she also goes outside. We have never noticed bad smells, and we feed her dry Science Diet and canned Fancy Feast daily. We have the pink dome litter box with lid. Good luck!

i would start with changing the diet of the cat!!! Some times that helps!
The feline pine works well!

I use Scoop Away and have tried many others- I think it does best. I try to specifically get the "Multiple Cat" formula, but I don't always. I get the big buckets (that are cheapest at Wal-Mart).

Try Yesterday's News! We recently switched and not only did it cut down on the smell it totally cut down on the tracking of the cat litter through the house! I wish I had known about it years ago! I buy it at Kroger

Definately feed them a high quality food! Really helps minimize the smell! Scoop everyday and dispose of nastys in you trash can outside. I use Fresh Step MultiCat and it clumps very well. Next thing you need to do is get a black light and at night go around to all the rooms in the house and check for any urine in the carpets. Urine glows under a black light, and some times you can find some surprises with this method that you didn't know about that can cause a lot of your smelly problems... I had to learn that one the hard way...

I have two cats and have tried ALMOST everything out there. I found one thing to be effective so far: WORLDS BEST CAT LITTER (multi-cat formula) with Nature's Miracle Litter Treatment.

I'm sure that there are other things out there, but this one I know for sure works! I get it at PETCO.

The first trick is to apply a thick layer of the litter treatment on the bottom. Then you pour the kitty litter in, but it has to be deep. The kitty litter box that we have is a covered one and comes with a filter that we change out weekly.

When guests come over, they don't even know that we have cats. For some extra scents, you can put a glade/air wick/deodorizer near it. You can even lay one one top of the covered litter box.

It really works! Good luck!

HI! I use the Fresh Step liter that clumps for multiple cats. I only have one cat, but her box rarely smells. I don't know if it is the multiple cat formula, or the fact that you can scoop out all the urine clumps (I think that really makes a big difference!!). The liter pieces are really small so sometimes they are messy, but I think it is worth it. Hope that helps.

B.,
We used to use the Arm & Hammer kitty litter (and our cat is on high quality food), but the smell was HORRIBLE. It did not matter how much we scooped the litter box, it was disgusting. We decided to try a different litter and it seems to work great! It is "Tidy Cats Crystals Blend." The only time you smell the litter box is if she has just gone #2 in it. My hubby scoops the box ever other day (sometimes more if the #2 is bad), and changes the little about once every week and a half. He is thrilled with the results of the "Tidy Cats." Hope that helps.

you might want to look into what you are feeding your cat... some foods process better than others.. and/or look at the cat's water intake...

My mother uses Orange scented spray in her house and it seems to work.

Good Luck!

We also have a cat and we used to use Fresh Step Kitty Litter, which was okay, but then I got pregnant. My husband hates cat litter and so we got the cat genie. This thing is amazing. It is a toilet for cats that is designed by rocket scientist to be like a litter box. Basically, they poop and pee in the cat box, and then it automatically scoops itself and then disposes of the waste. You just hook it up to a waste disposal line somewhere in your house like your bathroom or in the laundry room. The initial cost is expensive, however, it costs the same or less as keeping up with cat litter. http://www.catgenie.com It is definitely worth looking into. We NEVER have to touch cat litter or have that nasty pee smell anymore. It's wonderful! I wish someone had thought of this sooner! Good luck!

Hi B.
I understand perfectly about the cat smell...we too have a cat and i too use the arm and hammer, it's tough to get rid of the smell even if u do clean the litter everyday or several times a week like u do. I can only tell you that the way we eliminated the odor from inside the house was that we cut out a small cat door to the garage and that is where we keep our kitty's litter. I hope that helps....just a suggestion... it will only work if you have a garage. LOL....Good Luck!

We use the Walmart brand Special Kitty. We've tried just about everything else and that is the only one that has worked.

You do not need to change your litter. You should try adding Oreck Litter EX to what you already use. I tried everything on the market (including the Arm & Hammer Litterbox Deo b/c I use the Arm & Hammer Clumping Litter) and this is the only thing that works! It is a quite a bit more expensive than the deos you'd find at a typical grocery store, but is well worth the money. I actually have to mark a calendar and make a conscious effort to scoop the box because I can not smell it at alL!!!!

Available online or at your local Oreck Vacuum store. Here's a link:

As someone else suggested, the quality of cat food can impact the smell of the litter box - I use science diet and do notice things are far less stinky than with the mainstream cat foods and I have multiple cats. You really need to scoop the litter box everyday to avoid odors. I also have an air filter (HEPA) in the laundry room where the litter box is - that helps keep down the dust and odor. I don't think the brand of litter makes a whole lot of difference. I just switched from TIdy cat to the Arm & hammer that is unscented because I have sensitivities to the chemicals they use to minimize odors. As I say, cleaning the box everyday (I do it twice a day with multiple cats) makes the biggest difference. Many people that have come to my house expect an odor since I have several cats and they're always surprised there is no odor.
