We have a 6 month old cat that eats our dog's food. Is this normal??
We have been feeding her Kitten Chow and recently just stopped eating it. Any suggestions on what food to try? Our dog is not happy with sharing his food. :)

What can I do next?

We have had several cats that preferred the dog food. We ended up finding a cat food that both the cat and dog would like. The inverse (feeding the cat dog food) is not a good idea because the cat's nutritional needs (higher protein, I'm recalling) aren't the same as dogs and it is unhealthy for cats to eat dog food. But, it's okay (provided your dog doesn't have any health issues) for the dog to eat cat food. I recommend you check with your vet.

Hi W.-

In my experience this happens often but per my vet you should discourage it because the nutritional content is not the same in dog food vs. cat food. FYI I'm a Pet-Sitter so if you ever need someone to watch the "kids" let me know! My website is www.petsitterpro.org

My dogs will eat the cat food but never the other way around.
I would recommend trying a different brand of kitten food.
If possible, try just putting the dog food out when they are hungry instead of it sitting out all day, that way the kitten has no way to get into it.
Take care!

LOL! We have the same problem with our cat, except she'll eat her food AND the dog's! lol She sneaks in while the dog is eating, and he could care less, as long as he gets enough for himself. lol

I think I'm going to just have to resort to hiding the dog bowl when the dog is done eating. :D

LOL, I thought I was the only one with this problem.... My cat & dog do the same thing. At first I thought it was strange but nothing has happened to either one of them. Now grant it the dog doesn't like sharing so we just put the same food in their food dishes and they've adjusted. Just so long as Dory & Lucky have there food in seperate bowls it's fine. Now if the dog starts to meow and the cat starts to bark then I would say start worrying =) (cause that still goes thru my mind.....)
