Kitten 12 Weeks Old Not Using Litter Box All the Time for Peeing

We purchased our kitten from the humane society when she was 8 weeks old. We gave her a dog crate with a pillow and food and water for her. This was in our utility room, which has cement floor. She was using the litter box for both functions while she was in the utility room. We would let her out for a couple of hours and watch her. She would always poop in the litter box but not pee. We had to change rooms for her because the utility room had too many things for her to get into. She is now in a bedroom right across the hall from the utility room. She has been in this room for about two weeks now. We have not changed food, litter, and there have been no changes since we have brought her home. It is just my husband and I. We leave her in the bedroom until we get home from work. We don't let her out of the room until we know that she has used the litter box. When we are watching her, she goes to the litter box when she has to poop. If she is playing, she will pee wherever she is playing at. She does use the litter box when we are gone. The problem is the peeing when we are home. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

Yup, take her to the vet. Cats are really particular about using their litter box and if they don't, it's usually a medical condition like a urinary tract infection. There was a story one of our vets told us about a guy who had the same problem with his cat and didn't pay attention until the cat climbed up on his head while he was sitting in his lazy boy recliner and peed on his head! That made him pay attention lol.

I had a kitten a few years ago that did this. It turned out to be polycystic kidneys. There was no way for the little guy to have any control over his bladder. We ended up having to euthanize him because it wasn't fixable.

I second and third the moms who say go to the vet. It could be something simple like a bladder infection too.

Hi. I've got to add to other posts and agree. My kitty did this at about 6 months and it turned out she had a very bad heart condition. Good luck.

Yep - me, too. Vet time. Make sure she's OK physically.

Inappropriate peeing is usually a medical issue, like crystal in the urine (ouch!) or an infection. Talk to your vet. You'll probably need to collect a urine sample. They will give you a pan to try to get kitty to go in.

Make sure you're keeping the littler box very clean. Scoop frequently.

Use 'Natures Miracle' or 'Kids & Pets' (my fave) for cleaning up the pee spots on your floors.

We recently got a new puppy and for a few days he was doing the same thing. I kind of chalked it up to, like a kid, he didn't recognize the feeling of having to go until it was too late and because sometimes we were playing with him, I thought he just didn't want to stop playing.

It's only been a couple of weeks, but he seems to have gotten it together and hasn't had an accident in the house for the past week. Hooray!
