Depends on you likes and needs. I hate it. Husband thinks it LOOKS great. I want function. I would prefer soap stone and or wood. Concrete has really been growing on me as well as well as quartz. Do a internet search for counter tops and you get lots of info for your needs. I have some specific needs I have in mind and have not yet made up my mind. If and when I get there, I will very likely have different tops in different locations in my kitchen to take care of all my needs. Husbands hates the idea, but don't really care, I cook all the time and know what my needs are.

My dad who is a tool , handy man , mechanic type of guy. ie knows a lot about these things said yeah it's pretty but it's a lot of work and not really worth it. it's all a status symbol thing. Get something that fits your needs.

I've had granite for almost a year and I think it's beautiful. What were the salesman's issues with granite and marble? What was he suggesting instead? Have you thought about quartz or even concrete?

We have granite throughout the house.
Apart from having to seal it 1x a year, it's great!

I'm not familiar with marmol. We put in Cambria quartz countertops a year ago (there are other brands of quartz too). I love them. They are very low maintenance. They are completely non-porous and don't require the annual sealing, etc. that many granite countertops do. Quartz has a similar look and feel to granite. Some people are opposed to it because it is a man-made product using natural materials. It is not mined or completely natural like granite. I love the low maintenance, the look and the food preparation safety features of the quartz.

Many of my friends have granite and love it, so I don't know what this salesman was talking about. The only negative is sealing it once a year.

We are lazy at my house, so we opted for Cesarstone or Silestone as they don't have to be sealed.

Granite is very pretty, and desirable when it comes to resale, but it has it's drawbacks. It has to be sealed every 6-24 months (depends on who you ask). You can seal it yourself, but it's time-consuming. If you don't seal it, it loses it's shine and can stain. A comparable alternative would be a quartz countertop (I think it's called Silestone?) which is maintenance-free and comes in lots of color options. Plus, the color will be more uniform, whereas with marble you get what you can because it's a natural material.
