So my daughter will be 7 in a couple weeks and a week later my son will be 5. They are both good kids and with their birthdays being so close to Christmas they don't get a whole lot throughout the year. Our neice and nephew got an IPad and a Kindle Fire (one got the Ipad and the other got the Kindle) ever since they got thiers for their birthdays my kids have been wanting one. When they all 4 are together they love playing different things on them. So my questions is it ok for their age to get a Kindle Fire each for their birthdays? Their grandpa is willing to buy them each one for their presents! Also what would be some kid friendly cases to keep them as safe as possible?

What can I do next?

my daughter J. turned 6 and so did my niece and they both got one

it was a joint present from M., my boyfriend, mom, and aunt, for both of them

we got a case at 5 below...not sure if your area has one, but i'd highly reccomend the 50 dollar 2 year warranty and not worry as muich about the case

Yep. 7 is not too young - my daughter got one at 6 and operates it no problem. She loves it - the only present that has been played with every single day since Christmas. She gets free apps and free books, and rarely asks to buy anything from the app or music store. She connects to our home wifi and goes to several mom-approved websites.

I too recommend the 2 year warranty - Amazon customer service is a dream to work with, I had an issue with my kindle fire and they replaced it with a brand new one the next day- no questions asked.

I also recommend signing up for Amazon Prime. It is $79 (i think) per year. It gives you access to free movies and TV shows, one free book loan a month and free two day shipping on anything you order from Amazon. That's what I love the most about it, b/c I order tons of stuff from them. It paid for itself in no time in the 2 day shipping.

I have a Kindle Fire and my 4 yr old LOVES to play on it. We've downloaded some great games and learning apps for him and he really enjoys it. I would support this as long as you have WiFi in your house AND remember to password protect everything so they can't accidently purchase or order anything.

Just a thought... maybe they could get one Kindle Fire and an Amazon gift certificate to download books and games? You probably don't need 2 of them.

We are thinking of getting one for our 7 year old. He is totally proficient on my ipad, so we wanted to get him one--just didn't want to pay for another ipad. We thought the Kindle Fire looked perfect for what he needs.

My daughters will be one and two at the end of the month. They play apps on my fire. Not without supervision, of course. But they both love it! I would buy them their own if the were older. And it's all that much better if a family member wants to spend the money so you don't have to! :) You could purchase a year of amazon prime for both of them. They can rent free books, watch shows and movies, and even get a discount on shipments through amazon.
