Hi,
I am having a recent college graduate with a teaching credential help my son with his kindergarten homework. We are looking at about 1-2 hours a week. Anybody have any suggestions on what to pay her per hour?

thanks!

So What Happened?

Thanks for the responses!! I never thought I'd be the type of parent to get a "tutor" for my kindergardener but the nightly battles over homework were not beneficial for either of us. His teacher and my mother-in-law both recommended this route and I hope it will help.

I think the going rate for kinder homework is 20-25 per hour- My son was not so much reading ready but having a consistent tutor (especially because it was someone other than me working with him) really helped him turn the corner with his confidence in reading. I wish that I had kept it up during the summer too.

I charge $40 an hour and go to the students' homes. It was the going rate of the local tutoring company where parents had to drop their children off and pick them up an hour later. I have my degree in elementary ed and have over 10 years experience (5 in the classroom and 3 years tutoring after college experience).

I think with her experience and your locality, $25 an hour is very fair. You can also look on www.care.com to see what others in your area charge.

Good for you for getting help for your child so soon. Not every parent can work with her own child and no child learns at the same pace or way as others.

I think that $20-25 per hour would be appropriate for a tutoring session. If you think she is doing a terrific job, you can also reward her with an occasional starbucks card from you and your child!

My husband is tutoring through an agency in Keller and he gets $24 per hour.

I had a friend of my nieces work with my son on some fine motor issues the summer before Kindergarten. She charged us 20/hour.
