I usually either give Legos or books. Sometimes I will get a nice board game if I think the family/child will play it. Always give a gift receipt and they can exchange if they don't like it.
My daughter has another birthday party to attend tomorrow, and I am fresh out of ideas for gifts. What have you gotten for your kid's classmate for their birthday? She is turning 6, and so is the other girl who's party is next weekend.
We went to the Family Dollar store and I told my daughter that she can only spend $10 on gifts. She chose a Frozen game that resembles the game Sorry, and a Doc McStuffins figurine. Totaling those gifts, the bag, tissue paper, and card together were $14. Not too bad! Plus when she has a limit she can work on her math skills! Its easy at this store because things are priced to the whole dollar!

At that age crafts were always popular. Michael's normally has stuff for under $20 and you can get them at 40% off with a coupon.
I have finally let go of the control and let me kid pick something out. Then I just make sure I have the gift receipt taped to the box in case is a duplicate or the kids doesn't want it. It has relieved so much stress and my daughter LOVES getting to shop and choose a toy for her friend. Its a win-win in my opinion.
Bring your child to the store and set a reasonable price limit. Then let her pick out the gift for her friend. Don't overthink it. You don't know the classmate, your daughter does. Encourage her to select something she thinks the birthday girl would enjoy. Include a gift receipt. Done!
I ask the parent what their child wants when I RSVP. Saves a lot of time and trouble.
target or amazon gift cards. let the girl shop. :-)!! S.
Girls?
Try craft stuff, board games, dolls, purses with trinkets in them, hair stuff (if they wear headbands, etc.), doll clothes, books...
If cash is a challenge - Dollar store. Bubbles, sidewalk chalk, puzzles.
I use to buy crafts when they went on sale and stash them away to gift of birthdays. I also use to pick up lego sets, board games, etc whenever I saw them on clearance for the same reason. With 4 kids in the house someone was always being invited to a birthday party so buying ahead of time freed up time. My child would choose what he/she wanted to give and we'd wrap it in the sunday comics along with a hand made card and call it a day.
The best person to ask what a six year old girl would like would be another six year old girl, like your daughter. OR you can ask the parent for suggestions when you RSVP.
Cold. Hard. Cash.
Kids love getting $10 in all ones. :-)
I always ask the parents if there is something special ____ would like for their birthday when I contact them to RSVP. This helps me and their mom/dad to not overwhelm the child with things they will never wear, play with, or do.
Summer is coming up, IF they happen to go to the beach, you could get her a cute little beach towel, pale and shovel and stuff the towel inside it.. that would be cute.. OR flip flops and then those decorations that go on them so that she can create her own style.. I think a store like Michael's would carry that stuff..
spirograph.. when I was that age, I LOVED mine... two other things I played with a lot : a slinky and bubbles, they have the small bottles but you can also get those giant packages where you can blow the giant bubbles, always loved Mr. potato head !!! :)
It's ok to give kids the same gift. Next week's birthday girl won't care if she gets the same gift as Saturday's birthday girl. Don't stress so much about it. As long as you include a gift receipt, all's right with the world.
games, books, craft items, beading kits, clothing,
i let my kids pick out a board game - monopoly junior, connect four, and sorry are their favorites for that age group.
