At what age did you allow your child to take a bath on his own and trust that he washed thoroughly and without supervision!

What can I do next?

I went with let them soak till the water was cold, that way the dirt just fell off. :p

By the time they were old enough to bathe themselves I made them shower. Doesn't take as long. :)

My 5 year old has been taking showers on his own for about a year. He started taking his own baths about 6 mos ago, but I keep the bathroom door open and he has to sing or talk while in there so I know he's ok.

When he is done I just go in and ask him, "Did you wash x, y & z..." Sometimes he's done them all, sometimes he'll say, "Whoops, I forgot x" and promptly finish up.

At 4 and 5 they should be practicing bathing themselves, you there to supervise and then do a good wipe down in areas they cannot reach.. By the end of their 5 year old into 6, they should be able to bathe themselves correctly.

I still rubbed down our daughters back because she could not reach.. I had to help wash her hair. She had so much hair and it was thick.. Needed to be rinsed many times. I guess I quit helping with the hair washing when she was 8. She felt like she was able to handle it by that point.

It is just based on the child, I think..

My son was about 6 when he could manage a bath on his own.
By then he could clean himself very well.
But the big thing was making sure he didn't flood the bathroom.
Soaking the floor night after night so you need a mop to dry it up is just not good for the floor.
Slipping, falling, hitting your head in the bathtub is a danger at any age (just ask the elderly), so you want to be able to hear them but give them some privacy.
So many kids chip up their baby teeth from falling in the bathtub.
At 4 my son was likely to dump a whole bottle of bubble bath into the tub, so he was not ready to go solo yet.

I'd say 4, but it depends on the maturity. My 9 yr old and 3 year old girls shower or bathe together most of the time. I'm usually about 10 feet away. But I'm still not allowing my 3 year old in there alone even though she is very mature.

I let my 3.5 year old take his shower by himself but I stay in the bathroom in case he needs help.

It depends on the kid. Some pick up the skill sooner than others. My 8 yr old does a good job on his own, but I have to help by turning on the water.

My daughter is almost 5 and I'd say she's washes on her own about half the time. If I don't remind her to, she won't do it!! I do still wash her hair and back though. She's also starting to be interested in showering which is faster and I am not as worried about her falling!

My son is 5.5 and I just started watching over him as he washes his own body... I still shampoo/condition his hair because it's long.
