We are looking to get our kids-ages 6 and 7 a tablet for Christmas. Just wondering for those of you that have one-which do u have? Do u like it-recommend it? There are so many different reviews and some not too good. We were looking at the MEEP, KURIO, and the NABI. Thanks in advance. L.

My step daughter (6.5) has a nabi 2. She got it from her grandma. From what I could tell, it's a pretty nice tablet. She doesn't bring it over that often. I have never heard of the others you mentioned. Earlier this year, we allowed my then 6 and 8 year old boys to buy their own tablets with money they saved. I did a lot of research regarding tablets. I considered the nabi 2 for atleast my 6 year old, but my husband felt he would grow out of a child tablet too soon. In the end, we went with the Samsung galaxy 2 tablet for both boys. They are the same price as the nabi 2. Just a thought if you think they might keep them for the long haul.
We got the Google tablets for the kids last Thanksgiving. The kids love them. We like that it has a "Kids Place" and they can't get out of it to go anywhere else on the web.
We have never paid for any sort of access for any of their games, apps, internet, nothing.
They use the wireless internet from our computer, free wireless at McDonald's, Burger King, anywhere. There is no need to buy anything extra.

Look at the reviews.
Personally, I would not get a "kiddie" tablet. Think about the longevity of it per age. Kids can grow out of the kiddie tablets in like a couple of years. Your 7 year old especially.
Next: do you or your Husband have a tablet? And if so, what kind?
Your kids can use yours.
Next: are you getting each kid, their own tablet? Or they have to share... one? Sharing one may be hard.
But again, there would be rules on it, even if it is "theirs."
In our house, we have an iPad, and Nook HD, and my daughter has my Husband's old iTouch, and etc.
Since before my kids were 6 years old, they used ours and are adept at it and per rules and handling of it. And it is fine. They still use ours. Except now, last Christmas, they were gifted their own Nook HD's, from a relative. I have one too. Its good. But manufacturing of it will end soon and Barnes & Noble will not be selling it some time in the future.
Plus, per the iPad etc., kids use these in schools too. Some schools have it and Teachers use it in class etc. So, there is a continuum of kids' learning, at home and at school.
I just recently bought a tablet at HH Gregg. I ordered it online to pick up at the store. I only paid $69 plus tax. I got a bunch of free apps at Amazon and purchased one for my 5 yr old. She loves going on it. I have not really researched for other free items but can get into sites with Wi-Fi so she could visit something else if she wants. Since I want to be able to check email and maybe watch a show or 2 while working out, I mainly bought it for myself but it is low cost enough to let my kids go on it too. It is by Knu, Android/Google based and except for the very first use, very easy to use.
We recently, after A LOT of research, decided to buy my 5 yr old a Kindle fire HD. I would recommend going on amazon and reading customer reviews on all the different tablets out there. What I liked about the kindle (we have a Samsung galaxy and a Motorola for us) is that it has parental controls, so before he can get any app from the appstore (and there is a free app of the day that on many occasions is a kids' game or book, that generally go for up to $5) or download a movie from amazon (they also give U a 1 month free trial of amazon prime, which allows U to stream tons of movies and shows for free, 2 day free shipping on tons of items, and U can borrow a free ebook each month) U need to put in a password. We haven't used it, but there is also a kid zone that U can preload with books, games, and movies so that they only have access to those, and you can even program how much time U want them on at a time. They have a paid version of it that includes tons of shows, can't remember how much a month it is, and I believe U can also get a 1 month free trial of that. If U already have an Amazon account and have downloaded kid stuff from the appstore, you just add the kindle to your account, and then U can download all the stuff u already own into the kindle. It also was cheaper than the ipad and the other ones. We got the 7 inch one. A sturdy screen protector is also a must, as well as a good case, and there are tons of those on amazon as well. We actually didn't even pay for it, as we used our rewards points from our credit card, a lot of them are offering those right now. Amazon even has a 2 year $50 insurance U can get, which we didn't, that covers ANY kind of damage. I was looking into the Nabi, but there were a lot of bad reviews about how limited it was in getting and downloading apps and that customer service was a nightmare. Plus it was more expensive. Haven't heard of the others U mentioned. Good luck!
Personally, I'm an iPad user and love Apple. However, I could not spend that much on my kid. So, two years ago, we bought our then 5yr old daughter a NABI. She loved it! Played games (educational games), took pictures of herself, pets and toys and recently has been making videos. My issue is that her NABI can no longer be updated and the companies customer service is none existent. I have been looking into passing down the NABI to her younger brother and buying her a Kindle HD. She's an avid reader and her room already has 2 full bookshelves so an e-reader is what she needs. Also the Kindle HD has a camera whereas NOOK does not (NOOK is currently not being produced anymore). I would stay away from Childrens tablets. They won't grow with your child. Kindle has password protection to block them out of certain sites and restrict time spent on games. There are also pretty cool covers you can buy to physically protect the tablet. Hope that helps!
