Does anyone have ideas about what to serve for lunch for a kids birthday party at the park?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

I kept it simple and had pizza delivered to the park. I usually cook everything from scratch so this was a breeze! I really loved the pigs in a blanket idea and I will definitely use that in the future. Thanks, Moms!

You can always have some pizzas delivered there. Pizza is usually a safe bet with most kids. Sandwiches can get very tricky because most kids have strong preferences there -- no crusts, peanut butter but no jelly, no nuts at all, hate meat, etc. There was a party at the park we went to last weekend and they had a big stack of pizza boxes on the table.

simple sandwiches cut into triangles (avoid mayo since the kids may not eat all at once), fresh fruit tray, juice boxes or water bottles, chips or crackers. things the kids can grab and eat with their hands whenever they want to stop playing.

I got this idea from a friend at her daughter's birthday party - and used it twice at my daughter's parties - and it was a hit all the way around! I don't know if you already have a chafing dish - but if you don't, you can get a "disposable" one at Big Lots or Walmart in the party section for only $10. I have one - and have only replaced the Sterno - and used it/them over and over and over again. (for my daughter's parties @ the park, and catering events for my husband @ race tracks)
Anyway - my friend turned me on to the Walmart brand flaky biscuits in a can - the four pack is about $1.50. I buy hot dogs @ Publix when they are BOGO - you can plan ahead and freeze them if you need to, and then thaw the day before. Before the party - I cut the hot dogs in 1/2 or 1/3, peel the biscuits (each one will separate into 3 or 4 layers), wrap the dogs, bake until the breading is done. I put them in the top level of the chafing dishes, cover with foil and wrap them in beach towels. Take a gallon of water with you, when you get to the park, set up the chafing dishes, light the Sterno, fill the bottoms with water & so forth. They will stay warm and toasty quite nicely. I had small appetizer size plates, a bottle of ketchup, a bottle of mustard, some raw veggies & little individual cups of dip, and a big bowl of mini bags of asst. chips, and then drinks of course. You don't have to worry about keeping the ketchup & mustard cold, the individual size veggie dips are great because they can be set out at room temp also - as once they are opened and consumed they are just thrown away. The chips don't get stale, nobody gets offended by dirty handed grabbers, any left overs can be used in future lunches, snacks etc.. It's super easy, universally loved, & inexpensive. If you have time to watch the sales at Publix, you can get the multi packs of chips, & hot dogs BOGO. An 8 pack of hot dogs makes 24 mini pigs in blankets - so if you get them BOGO and make 4 packages - you can feed an army! I was amazed at how fast they were gobbled up at my daughter's park parties. Good luck and have fun! (also works great with Morningstar farms veggie dogs)

Make it easy on yourself - Chips, veggies with dip, sandwiches (tiny subs), and fruit salad. That way, nothing has to be cooked, and cleanup is a breeze. Plus, kids love all of it!

I would say pizza is easiest. But I did hot dogs last year and the kids LOVED them. They all ate and some even had seconds. Good Luck

I would suggest pizza (maybe Little Caesars for $5 a pie?) or BBQ hotdogs/hamburgers. Fruit shish kabobs- my kids had that at a friends party before and loved it. I think it was grapes and pineapple chunks.

Simply order pizza to be delivered. You can always add a few healthy options like veggies and dip, Gudernoobs, or chopped fruit too!

We did pizza in the park. Sloppy Joes go a long way. Hot dogs on the grill with baked beans and chips and potato salad/macaroni salad. Chicken wings or Cuban sandwiches. Finger foods of any kind.

You can get kids meals from KFC (chicken, veggies..doesn't have to be fries all the time...drink & snack in a box). I did that one year and I got buckets of chicken and sides for the adults. They liked it and said, "Finally, not pizza or hamburgers & hot dogs at a party." You can also bring a platter of finger sandwiches (different kinds so they can choose). This past summer I had a pool/spa party for my daughter at a local hotel and they let me bring sternos with chop meat and shredded chicken so that the girls can make their own tacos. (I set up a small table with the sternos and a bowl of shredded cheese, sour cream, diced tomatoes/salsa, lettuce, rice and beans. They had a ball "creating" their own meal. That is easy to do at the park as well--no sternos needed, just cook meat before you go or do a veggie style taco bar. Have fun!
