At what age did your kids start getting themselves up with an alarm clock? Thanks!

My daughter was six going on seven. She loved that thing- it was a clock radio. Never had a problem. Unfortunately, we had to give it up when we moved to South Africa; and I'm too cheap to get a new one that we wouldn't be able to use anywhere else;)

Up til last year I would go in and wake my son and help him get dressed half an hour after I woke up. Alarm clocks didn't work because he moved it to play music or forgot to set the alarm. This year, (age 9) he came up with a different solution. When I want to wake him up, I press the button on a wireless doorbell. He doesn't have to worry about setting a clock, and I don't get distracted in the middle of cooking breakfast. He's still trying to invent an alarm that will turn the lights on at the same time.

My two oldest kindergarten. I could never wake my younger son up so I figured an alarm clock would be no use to him so I never got one. When my oldest moved out he left his old alarm clock. By darn that kid got up with it and an hour earlier than I used to wake him. Go figure. :-/

My kids are 4 and 8.
They always, wake up in the morning at a certain time, on their own. And they have always been this way.
And I don't really have to wake them, at all.
They wake, at the time they need to.
They have a natural internal clock, for waking.

If on the rare occasion they don't wake on time, I wake them. Because I am always up, before everyone else.

My daughters are 7 and 4, and we still wake them up. I remember my Mom waking us until middle school- I think I didn't get my first alarm clock until 9th grade!

Huh.

Well, in the winter (the only season we have to be up early) kiddo gets up with MY alarm clock (while I hit snooze 6 or 7 more times). Does that count?

Aside from winter, ds8 (almost 9) just gets up on his own an hour or two before my alarm clock goes off unless he's in a growth spurt, and then he sleeps until an hour or two AFTER my alarm goes off. (It's really amazing to watch him pack on 2-4 extra hours of sleep a couple times a year. Whenever he starts eating and sleeping a ton, I know to start setting money aside for new clothes). Does his chores and has silly time. (chores are breakfast, shower, teeth, cleaning up from the day before, making his bed... and then he can do whatever he likes until school starts at 10). He's been doing this since about age 7.
