Hello Fellow Moms,

Wondering what you all do out there with this gross issue. Because I KNOW I am not the only mom out there that deals with this issue!

OK, so it happens mostly with my son since he was a toddler! His feet sweat in sandals or sandal type shoes that you don't wear with socks. Especially the reasonable ones you buy from Payless. I just bought him a really nice pair of summer shoes that can be worn with or without socks (they have holes in them on the sides- hard to describe) kinda like closed sandals.

Within a week of wearing them without socks they hideously stink!! It is really a problem in the car when we are in closed quarter that it is especially noticed! He does not even have to take off his shoes and we smell them!!

Moms out there what do you do? How can I get rid of the smell without throwing the shoes out or having to make him wear socks all the time! We live in AZ for heaven sakes! Now I have other times tried cleaning them but it does not seem to help.

What do you all recommend??? Because we are leaving for a trip with friends in two days and we are all going in our van! Don't want my 7 yr. old to be embarrassed or us!

Thanks ahead of time for your help!

Go online to DR OZ's website, he addressed this issue on one of his shows. the problem is not the shoes but, your son's feet ! Best of Luck, C. S.

I think if shoes are made of "man made" materials (read: not leather) they will make feet sweat and retain stink! Spend the money on better shoes--well worth it in so many ways. I'm a stickler for good shoes. My son is 8 and we've never really had this issue.
Keens are machine washable as well!

My feet were shall we say "special" in my youth ... we learned that leather shoes fake or real were a HUGE problem, even if they were sandals, we also used rock crystal deoderant

Good Luck -- for now baking soda and fresh air to air them out but again if they are leather (fake too) it will only keep getting worse!

My son also had the problem. I thought it was plastic shoes but I bought good leather ones and it still happened. I was told it was athlete's foot. He didn't have any of the typical symptoms but I treated him with the spray as if he had it - (wash and dry feet twice a day - apply spray - no socks or shoes unless necessary) the smell went away. Now, whenever they even start to smell I tell him to do the routine. Has worked for 10 years now.

My kids have stinky feet if they waer shoes with no socks- & for that matter I do too! I would suggest shoes & socks for car ride at least so you don't have smell issues! and then maybe some new sandals that are more open..to make foot less sweaty!
