Ladies,

is insect repellent appropriate for infants? if so, is there a type that boasts no tears, or "safe to eat". let's face it, kids can't help but to rub their eyes, and put their hands in their mouths.

going to the dominican republic. don't want our 7 month old to be itchy, or worse.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Our ped recommended no insect repellent for him, and none for us as well. He'll have his hands all over us and into his mouth/ eyes.

She also poo pooed natural bug sprays. She said although they are made with botanicals, they are still not safe if ingested. Fly screens it is.

Hi Lori,

I use a line of non toxic products that doesn't market a bug spray but a few of their products in combination have been used as a bug spray in tests in the jungles of Brazil. I buy it online. I use it at the beach and EVERYTHING is extra safe for skin and eyes. It even keeps those nasty biting flies at bay!

PM me if you'd like some more info.

At that age I wouldnt put any bug spray directly on his/her skin. I would spray a non toxic spray on your hands and wipe on his/her clothes and keep the baby covered in light weight clothing. Also, my aunt buys these patches that you stick onto clothes that work really well. We always put them on the back of the kids shirts and they have no contact with it. I think she orders them from QVC.

We use California baby. I recognize all the ingredients on the list AND it works.

i personally wouldn't put bug spray on my 7 mo, but i have put some on my self and and wiped my hands on the back of his clothes. i have also used the insect repellent bracelets on his ankle. or kept him near me with my insect repellent on. there are other things you can buy that are supposed to keep insects out of your yard and such. the actual repellent is usually made with some nasty stuff. good luck and have a safe trip!
