O.O.
Hopefully, you can use ground coffee in a reusable cup--those k-cups are really bad, environmentally.
We are not a coffee drinking household but occasionally like to have a warm beverage to warm us up in the morning or evening, and in a hurry. So we are thinking of getting a Keurig for Christmas. Who has one¿ What would you recommend¿ I found a deal for the Platinum for $150 and it comes with 70 assorted cups. Is this a good deal or are there others that would be better¿ Any tips or tricks you can offer as well as your experience- I would appreciate it.
(Sorry for the upside down question marks- my keyboard will only do it that way. :0)
Thanks everyone! So we will be getting one but I am going to watch the deals of the season. Thanks for the info!

We love our keurig. We have the kind with a water reservoir and multiple cup size options. We use the reusable pods not the throw away kind - cheaper and less waste.
The only time we don't like it is serving coffee for a group when entertaining. Making so many individual cups gets annoying but for the once or twice a year that it happens we just deal with it.
I got the platinum about a month ago ( see previous post on it). We love it.
I got it at costco for $150 and 60 K-cups.
My local grocer ( Market Street) had great deals on k-cups. I supplemented my stash with Starbucks, hot cocoa and teas.
I only use my bottled water for refilling the tank.
We're not huge coffee drinkers but I like to buy better quality and more than I need from the get go. We looked at smaller units and opted to spend more and enjoy it. It was a good decision!
Love it!!!
ETA: When I feed my dogs daily, I add chicken or beef broth to their food. I save time now because I put the boullion granules in a measuring cup and place on the machine, then set the amount of water I want the machine to deliver with nothing in the K-Cup and have instant bouillon for the dogfood!!
I love my Keurig. My FIL gave it to me when he got a bigger one with a water reservoir on the sides.
Mine is the kind that takes a cup of water each time. It's nice because the kids can't do it by themselves yet. I don't think I'd like it if they could just walk up, put in a cup, and start it. They'd drink all the hot cocoa!
I like the Lemonade although I did pour the hot liquid right over a lot of ice before drinking.
I like the Apple Cider. It's pretty tasty.
I love all the hot cocoa's that I've tried. We're not much into coffee either. I do have a box of Mocha but it's stronger coffee flavor than I like my mocha to be.
I think that making the drinks is so easy this way. I don't have to worry about anything. It won't start without sensing the cup is correctly positioned and it empties out each time since it's the less expensive one.
My FIL has coffee every day. He uses regular softened tap water to fill the reservoir too. No purchased distilled water or anything. He has a wide variety of choices and when company comes over they can have anything they want within just a few moments.
First I will say my husband an I love our Keurig coffee maker! However, we are a coffee drinking family. I would probably go for the cheapest one out there. For some reason I think I have seen a mini Keurig which would probably work better for you. Just checked and they do make a mini. See what the price difference would be and then decide. I highly recommend the Keurig. We do not use K cups. For us too expensive. I bought the Cafe Cups. They are reusable and we use Maxwell House coffee. Much much cheaper.
We drink all sorts of hot drinks.
Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, etc.
Our old house had a hot water dispenser that we loved but wouldn't work in our new house's kitchen when we moved a few years ago.
We thought about what we wanted for a long time.
Then we got an electric kettle and we love it!

You can select a range of temps (great for certain loose leaf teas).
We use it for everything even quickly boiling water for Ramen noodles or anything else.
We prefer something that is more versatile than some kitchen gadget that only performs one function.

My father LOVES his Keurig!! While I was out there taking care of my mom before she died, we found the drawer at Costco which holds more of the cups than the tree.
For those concerned about the environment? Don't be. There is a K-Cup that acts as a filter so you can use your own hot chocolate, tea or coffee in it to make the drink....
My mom, before she died, would use the filter cup and make her broth for soups, etc. She said it worked faster and better than trying to make it in the pan!
Hope this helps!
We just bought one a few weeks ago. I'm not sure what the "name" of it is, Platinum or whatever. But it has the tank where you put the water and 3 different sizes of cups to choose from. The only thing I don't really "like" about it is that the "large" option only fills my large coffee cups 1/2 way so I have to reuse the kcup and do it again. It waters it down some, but we buy the stronger kcups at costco so you can't really tell. Costco brand is $38 for 100 cups. By far the best deal. When we have a party, we just buy the assorted box for people to make their own and the pack of 5 "to-go" coffee cups with lids at the dollar tree. It's so easy for everyone to just make their own. So "technically" I think it's more expensive for each of us to have a cup of coffee in the morning when we each are lazy and use a Kcup as opposed to the "reusable" kcup you can buy. Which by the way is about $12 for ONE. But you reuse it so who cares. And we do have one that we use, but hubby uses it more often than I do...lol
I have the Platinum one and love it. I received it for Christmas last year and honestly if it broke I wouldn't wait a day to buy another one. My husband does not drink coffee but he uses it for hot chocolate. I make my coffee (Sams club french roast) every day. I also use it just for hot water for tea in the evenings. I don't buy the cups for tea, I just use it as a hot water source. I did buy the apple cider cups and I really like them also.
