I just found out that the skin condition that I have on the back of arm's has a name. I have had it all my life as did my grandmother. It isn't painful and doesn't bother me physically just a comestic annoyance. They say it is common so I figured I would ask you moms out there what lotions you have found to help.
thanks!

My husband and daughter have it, my son and I don't. Apparently it's 50% inherited from a parent!
In any case, I just saw a print ad in my new Parents magazine for a new lotion for KP. It's called 'KP duty', it's made by DERMAdoctor. You can find it at Sephora and Ulta. I'm going to pick up some for my gang. Good luck!

Find someone that sells or is a member of Melaluca. You have to be a member to get the best price on their lotion, but it is THE BEST. It's called Renew and its better than eucerin or any other on the market. My mom is a member and I have her get it for me. Everyone I've ever known to have used it also swears by it!

A.,

Both my 3 year old daughter and I have it on the back of our arms. I was told by my dermatologist to exfoliate with a fine sponge (too much can irritate it) with a mild soap (I use Aveno or Dove Sensitive skin) and moisturize (I use Eucerin cream not lotion.) On rare occasions it does get bad and my dermatologist perscribed lotion but did not like the fact I needed to wash it off before I could pick up my daughter when she was an infant for fear of the chemicals burning her skin. Most of the time it is easy to control.

Hello Anette,
I just want to give you some insight about this skin disorder that is very common in dry skin people. My husband has it and went to the dermatologist who explained to him basically that it did not have a cure. However, in order to keep it under control and smooth down the appearance of it is necessary to exfoliate and hydrate the skin with certain frequency. That is, you have to be on top of the problem and deal with it. It is inherited from family and for many people, specially women, it is just an aesthetic problem.

I've had it since I was a child. They used to prescribe Retin A for it, then OTC Eucerin cream. Now I use a loofah on my arms, and moisturize after every shower with Lac-Hydrin Five (8 oz is about $11 I think - I only need to buy one bottle a year). Anything stronger and you need a prescription. If you find anything better, please let me know as it is an ongoing battle! And yes, summer is slightly better, but it is still there.

I also have this skin condition and have seen 4 different dermos and all said same thing.there is not much at all you can do to help it. I have tried and spent some big money on all the different lotions, soaps, foams ect and none helped me at all. i have same amounts on both checks and on my legs arms i have them all over. I to hide behind cloths and it makes me so sick. I can honesty say the only thing i have seen help is i use a tanning bed. it is not a big difference at all,but it does dry them out and covers them up some. I was always so confused why the even tell you to try the different stuff when they know stuff don't work.I would try anything just to even get them undercontrol. my gram and mom and 3 aunts have it, but nothing as bad as mine. and thank god so far my girls don't have it. I use to think i was the only one out here with it.

My husband has had that for years (worse in the winter) and neither of us really knew what it was until my 2 year old was at the pediatrician's and he pointed it out to me and gave it a name. Apparently there is not much you can do other than exfoliate and moisturize. My pediatrician recommended Cetaphil for my older son's eczema and said it was an excellent moisturizer.

My mother, myself, and my son all have this. At least it's not itchy! My mom swears by exfoliating, but I just use a regular lotion. Nothing seems to make it much better or worse. My son, however, has it more pronouced than I do and we have noticed that certain soaps make it worse. I would say just experiment some more!

I have this too. The best thing is if i exfoliate and moisturize twice a day it doesn't really break out. I t gets worse in the summer so if I keep is well moisturized all winter the summer is minimal. the only thing i have ever found that makes the bumps better once they come is urea cream. you can buy it at cvs.

Also in non-medical terms doctors call it"chicken skin". It is genetic. My dad had it, I have it and my son has it. Went to the dermatologist and she prescibed a cream which I am suppose to use 2x a day.

I have this condition myself and have been using Arbonne's NutriMinC RE9 body serum and body lotion. Because this is a very moisturizing product, it has made the KP almost visually non-existent. If you are interested in the product, please go to my website or email me back.

I think i have the same thing! I forgot the name to it! Is it real rough and bumpy on the arms?? Well i have it all over my body, the top part of my legs have red bumps on them and i have big pores on my legs on the bottom part! Does anyone else have this problom?? My dad's side of the family has it! My oldest daughter has it but slightly, my middle daughter has it worse than my oldest and my youngest is only 7 months so i don't know yet! I have been teased about this problem until i was in high school, it is very irritating. I actually do not wear sleeveless shirts because of it nor do i wear shorts. Because i am very self conscious about it!!!! I feel everyone looks at my arms and legs. I have tried going to the doc and getting a prescriptions and trying different lotions, nothing works!!! The dermatologist says there is nothing you can do!!!!!! How wonderful and encouraging is that!!! Well just wanted to ask a few questions and respond, hope to hear from someone!

I have had it all my life and have never found anything that really works. I use a baby Aveeno product and that lessens the redness and roughness. Hopefully someone else has a product that works and shares with us!

Hi A.,
My son (now 5) has KP. There's really not much you can do for it. You will most likely notice that is gets worse in the winter & better in the summer. Keep it moisturized (with Aveeno or the like) and use a body puff or loofah in the shower. There is an expensive OTC lotion (AquaGlycolic?) but it didn't really do any miracles for my son. I'd save your money!
