Keeping Teacher Certification Valid

I need a little advice on keeping my certification valid. How many CE hours do you need every 5 years (I think it is 150)? Where do you get your CE hours? I was told to go through Region XI, but was hoping there was some classes you could take online. Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it should be 150 hrs every 5 years assuming that your certification is from Texas. I am currently trying to make sure that mine stays valid as well. I would go to the SBEC website www.sbec.state.tx.us There you can look up your current certification(s), how many hours you need to keep them current, and I believe it says how many hours you have (I could be wrong about that part). As far as where to get your hours from, look on the website and call your educational service center, but I believe that they can come from a number of different places. I have gotten some of my hours from free technology classes my school district offers. Also, many times the regional service centers have conferences that last 2-3 days. So you can rack up 12-18hrs. in one shot while learning a lot and having fun. Good luck!

I am also a stay at home mom and this too has been hard for me to do but I do know you can take ON-LINE classes from TEA. Just check out their website. Also during the summer the school districts will let you take classes with the summer workshops that the teachers have to do but you have to pay a fee.
Good luck,
J.

I am also in need of getting some (actually, many) hours myself. I'm pretty sure you can find some opportunities straight off the TEA website. I will be looking into it in the next few days, and if I learn more, I will pass it onto you. I've been a SAHM recently and have thus fallen behind in CE hours. There has to be opportunities for teachers like us. Good luck!!
