So, I've been wondering about this for a while now, but I always forget about it until the next time it happens. How do/have you handled getting your toddler and infant in/out of the car when it's raining? We normally have to walk through a parking lot to get to the door of the daycare...how do YOU manage it? Do you use one big umbrella to cover everyone? Not use an umbrella at all and get everyone moving as fast as possible?
So far, my method has been: get the baby & carrier into snap and go stroller (covered), walk around and get my 2.5 year old (wearing raincoat and hat). walk to the door as fast as possible holding my toddler's hand and pushing the stroller. no umbrella for me (no hands free for an umbrella!). Anyone have any ideas for making this less "wet" for everyone involved? Does your 2 yr old carry an umbrella? Is it hard to hold their hand if they're holding an umbrella?

Edit: I know it's just water and that it's not going to harm anyone. :) It's not even that my toddler is complaining about being wet (other than her pants getting wet if she gets out of the car on her own). I'm just curious as to how other people deal with the situation.
Yeah, I kind of figured that handing my 2.5 yr old an umbrella was just asking for trouble. Guess I'll just continue the "hustle as fast as possible" method and maybe invest in a good rain hat for myself :)
I live in Chicago, but I'm from Seattle. No one in Seattle uses umbrellas! So, I just learned to wear a good hooded jacket that covers the hips, put on sensible shoes that keep the feet dry, and duck between the raindrops! I'm teaching my 3yo to do the same!
My answer is just to move quickly and get everyone inside as soon as possible.
A little water isn't going to hurt anyone. If it's POURING, wait for the rain to ease up a bit first.
If it is pouring I have one of those huge umbrella's, but they are a pain so that is only if we will get totally soaked, otherwise just run for it.
Don't give them an umbrella until you don't need to hold their hands. Did this and it was a mistake. They don't keep it over their heads it goes all over the place and they wack you with it, and then the water just drips all over you and them anyway.
I wear my little one in a sling (under my raincoat with his head poked out)and carry an umbrella that covers my preschooler and I. Then we hustle!
No offense, but it's water, it is not going to hurt anyone. In the rain when my son was still a baby I would cover his carrier with a blanket unless he was in the sling (baby wearer) then if I had an umbrella I would use it or again cover him with a blanket. Honestly, once he got older I told him the same thing I told you "it's water, it's not going to hurt anyone."
good ? I just struggled with this yesterday. I use an umbrella and tuck under my chin...carry my infant carrier in left hand and scoop up my 2 yr old with other arm then dash for the door. Otherwise I put up her hood and have her walk but we could be outside forever if she wants to play in rain!! no offense but who has time to sit and wait it out?? I sure don't I have to be at work! And yes it is only water but you don't want your babies getting wet and then being cold so I do get it!! let's just hope it snows out instead of rain..:)
I just tossed a blanket over the baby in my arms, left the carrier in the vehicle. It is very hard for most child cares to manage the storage of them. Then the little one usually had a rain hat. Holding hands with one and cradling the other we did fine.
Get a big umbrella for you. Get the 2.5y out first. Carry the infant carrier using the hand you are holding the umbrella with.
I used to have a little rain cover that would slip onto the infant carrier and had a window so that the baby could see out.
