Keep My Toddler Warm at Night

i would put her in some leggie pjs not shorts and when you go to bed just cover her up and if shes un covered when you go pottyin the middle of the night cover her. Usually kids can cover themselves back up if they get cold. she probably is too hot thats why she keeps taking them off. good luck

We, too, use the Halo "Big Kid" Sleep Sacks. They work great! They have foot holes so toddlers can stand up and move around if they want -- but you can roll down the cuff to cover their feet when they sleep at night.

My daughter never stayed under the covers so what I did was get her some thick, footed pajamas so even if she didn't stay under the covers, I knew she was still warm. I would also warn against using a space heater in the room as other individuals suggested. It is a serious safety and fire hazard and I think a lot of the manufacturers warn against having them near children especially unsupervised.

I had the same problem with my daughter. She'd kick the covers off and wake up cuz she"d get chilly. I bought her some Sleep Sacs. They are absolutely wonderful. They zip up. They"re kinda like a snuggie for babies. They come in all sizes from NB to 5 years of age. I really dont know what id do with out them. My daughter is 2 and i found her size at buy buy baby. They're fleece and very warm. I just put her in that over her jamies and she sleeps gre4at. They come with leg holes too so if she wanted to walk around she could but i never use those. SHe only sleeps in it. They have them at babies r us too but only go up to large which is 18-24 months. I found that size not big enough for my 21 month old. Hope this hel;ps. I'm suprised no one else mentioned these. They'RE JUST LIKE A WEARABLE BLANKET. You child cant kick it off and it's sleevless too to prevent overheating. I HIGHLY recommend these. LOL, you don't! It's a pointless battle as many children move around in their sleep. I would just make sure she is wearing some warm jammies (I am a big fan of the footed ones) and then when she kicks of the cover, she will still be OK.

my daughter is 19 months, and has only on rare occasions stayed under the blankets. I have noticed that if she is super tired, and falls asleep as she hits the bed, she stays under the blankets, but that doesn't happen much at all. When I go to bed, I always check on her, and put the blankets back on her. If she kicks them off than i feel she is too hot. If she is cold she can get them back on.

I try to keep footy pj's on her in the winter and during the day, i put slippers on her. She keeps the slippers on, so i don't worry about them coming off at all.

Even my 7 year old step son, will kick all the blankets off him, I figure I do that at night if I am hot, so why wouldn't they. He puts them back on when he is cold, and so do I. So I am only guessing that's what my duaghter is doing as well.

They will really be fine in the footie pajamas, or you can put nice heavy socks on them with other pjs. Eventually they will get to where they cover themselves back up. It's really about all you can do.

L.; get longer sheets and tuck them in, and tuck the blankets under the mattress, have fun and buy footie jammies, is probably why they were invented, have a good day D. s

We purchased a space heater that if it is knocked over it shuts off automatically. We bought them at Target. I run it at night because my daughter's room gets very cold at night, even in sleepers. Best of luck to you. The heater is made by Holmes and the model is a creamic twin heater. You don't have to worry about them touching it they are in a crib still, wehn they go to a toddler bed, you just need to remind them every night that it's hot and not to touch it. Target has them on sale this week (October 5).

My son NEVER stayed covered. I would put his jammies on him and then put a blanket sleeper over it. Sometimes I waited and put on the sleeper after he was sleeping when the house started to cool down for the night. I also would tell him every night "If you wake up and you are cold, pull your blankets on you. It wil warm you up." because I wan't sure if he made the connection when he was younger.

You can't keep a toddler under the covers! We just bought our son warmer pajamas. Usually, if a kid gets really cold, he or she will find his or her way back under the covers. Good luck!

It could be that you don't. Remember all us individuals have different metabolisms. Your toddler might just be fine.

Try blanket sleepers. If she kicks off the covers, she will still be warm. They worked great for my kids.

If they do not stay under the covers then make sure to dress them in nice cozy jammies and then its like they are under the covers good luck

I used the one piece sleepers... that are nice and warm.. my son is using these now for his baby... hope this helps

my daughter (whome is now 12) used to do this ALL the time. My solution ? Buying her really warm pajamas! (the ones with feet in them).

Im with most of the other moms. its hard to keep covers on kiddies... in the winter when its really cold our DD wears footy pj's..
or socks if shes wearing pajama pants.

i cover her up, but she always manages to be at one and of the bed and her blankie at the other. lol

When I was little we called the footie pajama's "sleepers". I put my kids in snug fitting pajama's over their onsie or tshirt, then when it's bed time I put the "sleeper" on top.

Hi, you don't! Both of my kids were kickers from day one. When they were babies, I put them in bunting bags (have arms and then a solid bottom with no legs). When they were toddlers and small, they wore Lands ENd Polartec PJs with feet. Now that they are teens, they actually do keep the covers on. Good Luck!

We have always kept our house at about 60 degrees at night. So what I did when the kids were too little to stay under the covers, was to put them into some nice warm pajamas, and then put them into a larger blanket sleeper. They never woke up cold even if their blanket didn't stay on.

I used to used to have my toddlers wear the pj's with the feet in them or you can have her wear a little sweat suit type outfit for what ever temperature she would need to be warm, lightweight or a heavier weight and little footies or socks.

I have found that keeping the feet warm and covered is key to helping them stay warm.

How about using a fun sleeping bag? Tuck them in and zip them up.

I had to keep my kids in those warm blanket sleepers - without feet before they walked and with feet thereafter. I assume you can still get those. Our upstairs had no heating vents and my kids wouldn't stay under the covers anyway. When they grew too long for them or the feet wore out, I'd cut the feet off and they'd wear sweatsocks.

I always bought the warm fleece carter's PJ's under them I would put a T-shirt and socks. Of course I still woke up @ least 3 times worried about how cold he was. There's not much you can do to keep the covers on, my husband always assured me that if they're cold, they'll wake up.

Ha! you can't! They won't sleep under the covers until about 4. If it is cold, put blankets in the crib, but dress her warmly. Socks, a longsleved t-shirt under the pjs...

I sometimes run a space heater for an hour before I put my daughter to bed (i don't run it while she is sleeping)...becuase her room gets cold no matter what temp the house is.
