I would take my dog into that vet and have him checked! Did they give you the wrong dosing for your size dog? Please call them asap!
We usually use Frontline Plus, however my husband did a job at a Vet. Clinic and they gave him some Advantix as a trade for his help. We gave it to our 25lb Beagle Basset mix Sunday night. We have noticed that he is not eating or drinking as much, therefore he hasn't peed in like 2 days now. He is just not acting the same. Does anyone know if this is normal, will it go away, what's the deal?
Thank you everyone for your concern. Luckily Kevin (our dog) perked up and it pooping peeing and being himself again. It sure scared us and we will NOT use that stuff again. I was to terrified of literally fidning him dead becasue he got so lethargic!

It's pesticide. There are bound to be side effects, right? Google K9-Advantix side effects" and you'll get a zillion horror stories...
I have been a dog owner for 27 years of my adult life (two dogs, O. 16, O. 11) and I have just preferred to skip the "big sell" from the vet and IF my dog gets fleas, we deal with it when it happens...
I could just never put pesticide directly onto or into my dogs.
They gave him the Advantix without actually seeing, weighing and assessing the health of your dog? Completely irresponsible. Call the vet and tell them what you've told us. We can't help you, as we aren't looking at your dog, don't know the dosage and aren't vets (with the exception of DVM mom and maybe a couple others).
My vet is very particular about the formulas of meds for our dog. He mentioned some pack so much in them is not good for liver, etc. I'd call you vet to make sure.
I worked at a vet. Advantix is a non-prescription so they don't have to weigh or assess the dog's health like Robbe suggested, so the vet isn't being irresponsible. They only have to do that for prescription meds containing heartworm treatment such as Revolution or Heartgaurd. Advantix is not in those categories, it is only for fleas and ticks.
The weight requirements need to match up to your pet's weight for starters to make sure no overdosing can occur.
As for possible side effects, it could happen if your pet licked the liquid, or even through absorption in the skin. All meds have possible side effects and some animals are more susceptible to them, just like humans are.
Lethargy, slight hairloss at the sight of treatment, drooling are common side effects, though there are more serious ones as well. What you describe is not. I would contact the vet. http://www.livestrong.com/article/87275-advantix-side-eff...
