I was wondering if any one knows if you can draw unemployment if you quite your job becuase ou are pregnant. I work for a trucking company and was working the dock before I became pregnant. I can no longer do that job as you are lifting 80+ pounds all day long. My doctor wrote me a not for light duty and I havent had any problems but know my terminal manager is askinng e if I can back on the dock and cuting my hours form 9 to 7.5 a day he is also changing my hours almost every week. If anyone has any info or advis please let me know . TIA

Call 211 InfoLine or TX workforce commission, when i was pregnant with my daugther i called them and they were able to help me find a job and daycare for my child after she was born and i got on food stamps also

When I got pregnant with my daughter (now almost 3)I was working for an insurance company. I looked on the unemployment website to see what circumstances qualified me for unemployment if I quit. There was only 2 ways - one of them was if the hiring contract was changed significantly. So... if your boss is significantly changing your hiring agreement then yes... BUT - they will only pay if you actively look for employment. I was put on bedrest and therefore couldn't look for work, and therefore didn't get paid any unemployment during that time.

My boss just so happened to change my hiring contract from salary plus commission to commission only. He then fought their decision 4 or 5 times until he exhausted all of his appeals. I would seriously consider how much you want to go through to get unemployment.... and they usually decline your filing initially and you have to appeal that.

If you choose to file, make sure you get a contract change signed before you quit. Also, keep a log of all conversations, dates and times. You'll need to refer back to it.

The answer to this question is no. If you voluntarily leave - NOPE! You need to speak with your HR department and find out what your companies light duty policy is if you are unable to meet the minimum requirements of your job. I worked in HR for 12 years prior to staying at home with my kids and there are always policies in place regarding this issue. Typically, light duty expires long before your due date and then you can be terminated for not being able to fulfill the minimum job requirements. Contrary to popular belief, companies are not "required" to provide light duty. Talk to your HR staff and find out what the policy is and try to stay - if not you will absolutely lose any chance of unemployment. Good luck!

If you feel that you are being treated unfairly because of your pregnancy, then your employer is breaking the law. They should make "reasonable accommodations" for you in your current condition. Pregnancy is considered a temporary disability and should be treated as such. I would contact your employer's HR department and voice your concerns. If there is no HR department or you don't feel comfortable speaking with them, then you should contact the Texas Workforce Commission and inquire about your rights. You should not be made to feel like you have to quit because you are pregnant.
