Help mamas
My daughter is 11 months & I see her 2 little teeth coming in. She has been very fuzzy so I knew she was teething but her fever was getting high so I took her to Urgent Care. They sent us home & said she has no infections just teething. Now its been about 4 days & she still has fever! We have been up all night these past days & she is crying non stop (so not like her). I gave her Tylenol & it hasnt helped. She has a horrible wet cough & I can't get her to stop crying. We are taking another visit today to her Pediatrician I was just wondering if this is normal for teethers? Any home remedies I can try until doctors office opens? Thanks

What can I do next?

Thanks moms, I knew there was something wrong. Her pediatrician said she had an ear infection!!! So he prescribed her an antibiotic & she was resting soon after!

well teething they generally dont have coughs, I think she probably caught something at the Urgent care when you took her for her fever. I would say you could just try to comfort her with cold compress, and let her play with a frozen teether if she likes those. If she likes baths, bath her and do some massage with baby oil or lotions. This will calm her till you can get back. I would say with a persistent fever and cough your looking at a illness rather than teeth.

Tyleol does nothing to help my teething babies. I always do Ibuprofen--it is anti-inflammatory, so it takes care of the inflammation that is happening where her teeth are breaking through.

I DO use Orajel when the pain is so bad that you need immediate relief. It helps my kids. Also, Hylands teething tablets work for my kids during the day time.

Home remedies that help mine:
Wet washcloth popped in the freezer for 30 min
Teething bag with 1/2 a popsicle inside
Baby Mum-Mums (teething rice crisps)

My 9 month old is getting 3 new teeth right now AND he has a cold too, so it very well could be both for your little darlin. Not fun, but you will both get through it and your happy baby should be back soon!

I never suffered through teething like this (Big hugs to you!) but I would consider what Mama Duck said about Ibuprofen. I have found that sometimes alternating (suggested by our Ped and the ER after an ear infection) might be the way to go. In fact, the ER actually gave our DD both Tyl. & Ibuprofen at the same time when we went. Something to consider. The good thing is that you have appt. today and that will clarify any unfound ilnesses. Take care!

My son always had a high fever with teething. And got an ear infection. And a cough. And extreme fussing. So it was normal for him. My baby girl doesn't do this. So I think it depends on the baby. My girl loves chewing a paci that has been frozen with water in the bulb. That is about the only thing she would take while teething.
I prefer Infant Ibuprofen to Tylenol. Works better and longer. None of those teething tablets and such ever helped either of my kids. The teething gel like Ambesol is just gross (try it yourself) and the numbness is uncomfortable. My son actually bit his tongue really badly when I used it as I guess he couldn't feel his tongue!
Anyway, I hope you get some answers!

Hyland's teething tablets alone never worked for us, so we used a combo of the Hyland's teething tablets with the Hyland's CalmsForte4Kids and liquid calmag from Bluebonnett (blueberry flavor) as calcium/magnesium are natural painkillers and nervous system relaxants. It took a couple of days, but made a HUGE difference.

A pediatrician told us that you can't get a runny nose and fever from teething. He's an idiot. Most of our kids get those symptoms with teething and the second the teeth come in, wah-lah!, no symptoms. (A cough can occur with a sinus pressure and subsequent post nasal drip from the pressure and the sinuses purging.)
