I am 40, married, with a 10yr old daughter. I haven't really found a useful/fun mom forum, but I thought I'd try mamapedia out! Looks great!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Trying to learn how to navigate this site...is this where I respond to people? Oh no, sounds like I have some things to learn. I'll get it, I hope. My picture is not ok? Should I change it? What is a troll? Gosh, I must seem like a real newbie. Thanks for all the info. I'm excited to meet new people and learn new things.

Welcome to mamapedia!!

I've been here for a long time, since 2007.

I've met some wonderful people on this site...and like with everything in life...there is good and bad.

You ask a question? Be prepared for honest answers. Be prepared for bluntness. You might not like what you hear. and you might LOVE what you hear.

Good luck! Enjoy!

Welcome!
Forgive my skepticism
(and I apologize if I am wrong)
but your profile picture is similar to a troll we've got lurking on the site.

If you're a genuine Mom - Great to know you!
Please read the Term and Conditions.
http://www.mamapedia.com/static/terms_and_conditions

In general - no flaming (bad mouthing people), no soliciting (asking/begging for goods/services), and no advertizing unless you go through the process to become an official site vendor.
Besides Moms, we have Dads, grandparents, teachers, coaches, child care providers - anyone interested in child raising issues - on the site.
The diversity makes for some interesting advice/discussions/perspectives.

Trolls/scammers/spammers are reported and not tolerated.

II've also been around for a long time. Welcome!

MMP isn't so much a forum. It's a question/answer site. You ask, we answer. You can answer too, on other posts, and we hope you do!

For your questions, you can update or respond in the So What Happened section, but that's the only way. Hope you enjoy the content here! Don't give up on us if there's a weirdo or a disagreement. This is a public site, so you're always going to end up with some oddballs. :-)

Welcome!

A few tips - You'll see certain questions featured when you open the page (based on your location, expressed interests, etc.), but you can go to "see all of today's questions" to get everything.

You can go to your in box to see who send you a "flower" which is basically a "like" - when someone liked your response.

We use certain abbreviations and acronyms (e.g. DD is darling daughter, DH is darling husband, SIL is sister-in-law, etc.). If you aren't sure, you can ask publicly or you can send a private message - but not everyone checks their in box regularly so if you don't get a reply, don't be offended.

Yes, you reply in the "So What Happened" slot, which is abbreviated SWH. It's a public response and will only be seen by those who come back to the question after they have written their responses. Some people do that, some don't. You can personalize your SWH with someone's name, or you can just add in some edits to clarify something. "ETA" means Edited To Add, by the way - to show clarification. You can do that in your original post or in the SWH section.

If you are asking a regional question, looking for info on a specific area or city, then put that city in the TITLE of your question, not just in the body. It saves time and gets your question noticed by people who know that area.

The questions need not be limited to parenting - people ask about travel, spouses/partners, parents, recipes, home repairs, all kinds of things. There are also a few men on the site and they are welcome too.

Do keep your info relatively private - but "C. from Austin with a 10 year old" is pretty vague - I think you're safe!

It's a great question and answer site. Also, you can ask a question specific to your area. I found a mom on here back in 2007, who lived in the same area as me. Our kids have been good friends since then, as are we!

There are some good regulars on here that have been giving great advice for awhile. Some advice can be very blunt! Haha. Some questions can seem way out there too. I've always enjoyed this site.

Welcome!

Welcome aboard!!! I live in the Plano/Allen area just outside of Dallas.

We have a 20yr old daughter and I have been on this site since it was Mamasource years ago. I believe my daughter was in 5th grade when I joined and she is now a Sophomore in college!

There are some great moms here. I have made some dear friends and some of us have met in person as well and continue our friendship!

I hope you like the site!

Please consider that not everyone on here is a person you want knowing your name and where you live. That's dangerous.
