Just Joined Garland Lifetime Fitness - Freaked Out About Leaving Kids

I'm hoping to get some opinions about the childcare center at the Lifetime Fitness gym in Garland. This is my first time to join a gym like this and I'm so freaked out about leaving my kids there - so bad that it's actually making me sick to my stomach. I can't stand the thought of someone hurting my kids physically or otherwise. When we took our tour today, I walked through the childcare area with my husband and 2 kids (ages 5 and 2) and no one seemed really friendly and no one said anything to my kids. They don't have the gym set up where you can see your kids on a tv screen while you work out and there are places you can't see from the childcare entrance. I really want to get in shape but not at the expense of my kids. My husband is really excited about joining this gym but I'm thinking about having him cancel my part of the membership when he goes tomorrow. Does anyone have an experience (good or bad) they can share with me?

What can I do next?

If you are looking for a place like Mother's Day Out - it is not like that at all. We are members in Plano and they are really good with the younger kids but the older kids kind of do there own thing. My kids love it so that makes me feel better.

I'm a mother of 2 (3 and 5) I'm a weekend and fill-in supervisor at Lifetime in Garland. I have worked at the gym since it opened (almost 4 years ago.) I will be there tonight. If you would like to come in with your little ones, I would be more then happy to talk to you and try and make you more comfortable. The last thing that I, or anyone at the gym wants is someone that is uncomfortable. Mom's need there work-out time. I feel so much better after I work out that I think that I'm a better mommy for it. Give us a try. I might also suggest that if you can come at off hours (8-9 am, 12-4 or 7:30-9) you might be more relaxed. There are less children running around and staff can really get a chance to play with children rather then watching to make sure everyone is ok. Also weekends are a great time to start. Sunday mornings there is hardly any children.
Hope this helps.

ps let me know if you have any other questions.

I actually just cancelled our membership there b/c i wasn't happy with the childcare center. but that is b/c i have an infant that i have to have an appointment for and can never get one. but the other reason is b/c we try to go during the off-peak hours, usually 8:30, and the only thing for my 3 yr old to do is play on the computer until they open the back part. he could care less about their computers, primarily b/c we can't ever get them to work. i've actually sat down w/ him in there trying to figure it out to help him and no one ever offered to help us. he loves to play on their outdoor equiptment, but they never open it. it is kind of hit and miss on how welcoming the staff is. some of them are great and others are rather "cold" and grumpy. but i can say that they have never done anything to harm my kids nor have they intentionally upset them. hope this helps. by the way, i have a lot of friends who go there still and their kids love it, but they go when it is busier.

We have been members there for several year snow and are really impressed w/ the childcare center! my kids love it an dthe staff. We jump between Plano an dgarland gyms and I am waay more impressed w/ the garland childcare, however both are GREAT in my opinion. I have a 3 and 4 year old and they have been going since infants.

our lifetime in allen has a special section for the younger ones. ask if your five year old can sit with your 2 year old for a few times until you are more comfortable. i would let a manager of the playcenter to know your fears and that you are thinking about canceling your membership-- they aren't going to want to loose your business so they will pay particular attention to your little ones.....

I am a member of the Garland Lifetime and my three kids stay at the childcare frequently and have for a couple of years without any incident. Right now because of the summer it may be more crowded than normal but my kids love to go there.
