Just how much does it cost to keep your house (2700sft)warm in cold weather in Colorado Springs making use of gas heat?
I have oil and it is whenever it goes down..Usually around every 2-3 months in winter. It cost about 750. With Gas it's monthly so probably anywhere between 250-350.
Our house is 1650 square feet. We live in Madison, WI. The bill I just paid for our (natural) gas and electricity was $303. That's the most it's been so far this winter. I was actually shocked it was so much, but then realized we've had some major snowstorms as well as very cold weather since the last billing cycle. Usually it's somewhere in the $100s.
I'm not sure what just the gas portion of the bill would be unless I go and find the bill and separate the gas from the electricity. It always depends on how cold it is and if we're running additional space heaters. Right now, with it being cold and my home office being downstairs/split level, I run my space heater so my feet don't freeze (!). At night when we watch TV in the rec room downstairs, we have the space heater in there going as well. If we could live without the space heaters, we'd save some money, but we don't want to sit and turn into icicles!
wow I wish our bills were like some here. our house is (i'm not sure what size) its 3 floors and we have thermosats in all rooms. even with keeping the heat off in most of the house we're at 300 per month. We have oil and out water is heated that way as well as the home. We keep the temps down to 67 or lower in each room we're using and the rest of the house is 65 or lower and we're still using a good amount. The house were in has huge stone walls and from the 1800's the windows are not energy efficient though. We have put that sealing plastic on them and still we're at that price
I live in Minnesota and have a two story house a little bigger than the size you are talking about. The bill includes gas and electric together and our total bill for a really cold month is about $300.00 a month. It really depends on how warm you keep your house, if the windows are good, if your furnace is energy efficient, etc. We keep our house at about 65 degrees during the times that we are home and 60 when we are not home/sleeping. We did buy a new, very energy efficient furnace and air conditioner last summer and it has helped immensely.
We could be relocating to Colorado Springs shortly. I'm from Texas,so we would not have high heating price. But agonizing to maintain great down here. Attempting to learn when we make it what to expect. I will will also be buying a house with a cellar if that information helps. Then when you move request to be put on a buget to keep you expense constant for the year. real-estate colorado springs
My house is 3800 sq ft and our gas ran $135 this month and our electricity about $200. We keep our heat set at 68 degrees. The only other thing in the house that uses gas is the stove and hot water heater so I guess that isn't too bad to pay.
1. What do you consider to be "warm?"
2. What kind of gas? Natural gas? Propane?
3. Can you call your gas company and get an idea of how much gas was used over the last few winters at that residence? That might give you an average. Then you can do a little basic math based upon the current gas costs.
It costs us about $120 a month using natural gas to keep our house at 72 degrees. Same size house as yours. It hasn't been that cold though, getting below zero just a few days each winter for the past couple years.
We also have gas heat and a pretty big house. There was a big news story last month because the gas company just upped it's rates. My bill for last month was $278 and we usually keep our house set at 73 F degrees in the cooler months (which in WI is October - May!). Could probably go cooler, except the downstairs is usually closer to 68 degrees (where my daycare is) and the upstairs is 73.
