I have a 2 year old son, he has been into cars for quite sometime, I had to watch him because he liked to chew on the tires! However he would sit and roll them around forever. Also if you like coloring you can try the Colorwander markers by Crayola, they are mess free, and a little more difficult to eat! Good luck!

Maybe start letting him play with different textures...flour, sugar, beans, pudding. Messy, yes, but very good sensory experiences for this age. How about finger painting?

If you stand right by him to be sure he doesn't fall, and he can reach into the sink by standing on a chair then playing with tupperware or plastic cups while the water drips into the sink can be fun. Be prepared to change him and wipe up the floor when you are done.

Recently my cousin and I had our kids (13 months and 20 months) finger paint with yogart. We put a bed sheet on the floor, used food coloring to color vanilla yogart all different colors, gave the paper (one piece at a time) and let them go to town. It was awesome! I am the type to avoid things that can tend to get messy, but I'm sooo glad we did this. When they were done, we just plopped them into the kitchen sink to get cleaned up. The sink was ideal because they could play in the running water while we cleaned up the mess :)

My sons love playing with dry rice and beans, especially when there are shovels and containers around! Bubbles are really good. Balloons are, too, but be sure you watch him as he plays. If a balloon pops, he could put the pieces in his mouth, and that would be very bad. My kids also had a fun time with a "fort" by putting a blanket over the kitchen table and crawling and playing under it. They also love to take all the cushions from the couch and pillows from the bed to make a mountain that they climb.

Scooping--be it rice, beans, water, etc. Blocks, music and dancing, make bean maracas out of paper cups, play doh, bean bag tossing, go for a walk, or use a stroller, Give him a big magnifying glass and go turn over some rocks, Make drums from pots and pans and wooden spoons, make him a paper airplane, make animal noises, animal flashcards, read books, give him spoons and stuff to sort, learn colors, sing songs

pour some dried beans into a large bowl or tub and just play in them with your hands. Get out some pots and pans and some wooden spoons and play music. Build a fort with sheets and pillows and hide in it with him. Take pillows and lay them around the room and jump across them and act like there's water in the middle. Play music and dance around the room with him (he wont care if you cant dance and no one else is looking LoL) Go to a craft store and get some foam stickers and peal the back off and let him stick them on paper randomly my 2YO has love to do this since he was about 18 months old. I let him do this while I did crafts with my 4YO.

Go to letteroftheweek.com and see what they have there. It's a curriculum, it's free, but it will give you something to do each day that will keep him interested and it fits with his age group. I used this with my youngest for preschool age activities and we loved it.

I have recommended this site to several people and everyone loved the activities there.

Have fun with him as they grow so quickly. They like water stuff so put him in the tub with no water in it and fill containers so he can pour water from one to another. There are CD's of great songs that are age appropriate that yall can learn together. Write up a schedule of sorts with pictures so he starts to see what they mean & what to look forward to next. Like a picture of someone walking to signify it's time for an outdoor walk. Have Park Tuesdays where you take him to a park. And just in your daily life be teaching him colors, shapes, numbers. Read a lot to him.
