Just a Phase? Anyone Else Suddenly Have a Sensory Sensitive 5 Year Old?

I have a wonderful 5 year old daughter. She is super smart, quick learner, constant talker, social. I feel spoiled because she is so great-never has emotional issues-tough girl when she falls down-gets back up. However-this week has been so emotional! Maybe it is just another phase of growing-i have yet to see where this goes. Of course i have googled it-but i like to ask the mamas out there who have true expierience (:
Some of her senses just seem extra sensitive. Smells-not all smells all the time. Random smells at random times-example: could not stay in the laundry soap section of the store because the chemical smell was to intense for her.
Twice this week if she ate something that tasted bad to her-she gagged and threw it up. Her brushing her teeth is an issue this week-it leaves a taste in her mouth and she constantly tries to spit it out in the sink for like 20 minutes. She is sensitive to drinking from a water bottle that has been opened earlier-she says it tastes bad (when its just a few hours old). This morning-i opened a new pack of toilet paper. Well after she went potty she said the TP smelled and she did not want to use it. It smells normal!! Lol (but apprently not to her). I know these things may sound petty-but they are out of chracter for her.May be she is just having a rough week. Anyone else expierience anyhting similiar? At first i was frustrated-but now i am just loving her where she is at-trying to pay attention to whats going on with her.

What can I do next?

The only time I heard of something similar happening was when my nephew was diagnosed with PANDAS from untreated strep. Google it and see if it applies. (FYI...my nephew was never sick with strep throat...he never even had a sore throat.)
I would call the doctor if it continues though.

EDIT. ... My nephew was given antibiotics and is fine.

Before jumping to conclusions and rushing off to doctors, give it some more time. You say she is emotional. It's the end of school, kids are tired.
Sometimes kids will find fault with EVERYTHING when they are tired. Anything change at home? Of it continues for a few weeks, talk to doc.

I am making a documentary about our environmental toxins and it sounds like something has triggered this in her little body. There are natural things you can do to clean her body of chemicals, like berries, chlorophyll and apple pectin. You are welcome to reach out ____@____.com

One thing, maybe two would be normal, but that just doesn't fall under normal to me. I'd make a Dr's appointment.

She might need to see a ENT, or her doctor, and have them take a look. She might have something wrong in her sinuses etc. If she is not smelling as usual, or things smell "weird", same with taste, then something is up. She may just have a sinus infection, or many a thing. I dont think it's just a phase.

I would make an appointment if it were me.

I haven't had this issue with my son, but I have always been sensitive to chemical smells, and sometimes when I am sick everything bothers me like you mentioned your daughter feeling. The smell of foods that don't normally bother me do, and water totally tastes off (and I drink a lot of water all of the time), I get super sensitive to everything. This doesn't always happen when I am sick, I think it might be related to a light stomach bug, since it isn't like I get really sick, I just feel gross (stomach ache), have the sensitivity, and then I'm better in a couple of days (maybe once every few months). I don't think it is a phase for her, I don't think she can control it, but I'm sure it will pass. Don't worry too much unless it goes on for another week, then maybe take her to the doctor.

Sounds like me when my allergies are going crazy. My sense of smell goes crazy and I'm always queasy due to all the drainage. I don't have sneezing or runny nose when it gets real bad. I can just feel the drainage down my throat.
