Girl, up and join. You have to be a woman, but other than that, you can be married or single, working or stay at home, any age over 18. There are all different races, religions and backgrounds represented. It is a nationwide organization dedicated to voluntarism benefiting women and children. Here's the website: http://www.ajli.org/ Your first year you are considered "provisional," meaning you have to go to monthly classes (in which they teach you the history of Junior League, as well as teach you how to be an effective volunteer - these are useful skills you would also use in the business world or PTA if you were so inclined). At the conclusion of the first year, your provisional class works together on Kids in the Kitchen, which you can read all about on the website. After that you're no longer provisional, and can apply to be on various committees, and take other leadership positions. I'm actually taking a year off from Junior League because we're relocating and I've been working 70 hour weeks, but once we're settled in our new city, I will definitely re-join! It's very rewarding.

Here's the website for your local chapter:

I think I'll join the one out here in LV. Sounds like a worthy cause.

Good luck with meeting new friends. I think you are on the right path but don't really know it yet.

The Junior League is a women's charity group. The host functions, raise funds and support local organizations. You typically have to be sponsored by a current member. My mother and several aunts have been members and it is a worthwhile organization, but can be a little "stuffy" at times. You can certainly call them to get information, but your best bet is to find out if you know someone who is already involved and talk with them about it. Each chapter is different.
