Jumperoo or Exersaucer

I need help deciding whether to buy my son (four-months-old) an exersaucer or a jumperoo. Because he will only be in it for a short time, I only want to buy one of them, and I'm not sure which is the better buy. We have all the other items in the Fisher Price "Precious Planet" series, so I've been trying to decide between the Precious Planet Jumperoo and the Evenflo Megasaucer. EDIT**With either one, I will not begin to use until the developmentally appropriate time.

What can I do next?

I had both with both of my kids, now 9and 6 years each. I loved both , but the draw back to the jumperoo...we called it a Johnny jump up....was that with most open floor plans today the only time we could use it was when we could block the outside door open because that was the only door jam that was not in the dark hallway... they loved it...but we used the exersaucer much more...we set the height just so their toes barely touched so they can bounce more...
if you have the door jams to use...I feel either one will work well...

I got both through a local craiglist type service for less than the cost of one new. Beside needing 1 toy that was missing(which I got for 6 dollars) and a bit of cleaning my daughter loved them both. I have the stationary jumperoo not the one in the door way. Hit resale shops I always see them there for like 15 bucks. Good luck

The Precious Planet jumperoo got rave reviews on Amazon so we bought it for my son. He's only in it a few minutes a day since he's so little, but he LOVES it... :)

I had both. If I had to choose just one, I'd get the exersaucer. (My daughter enjoyed both types of toys but the exersaucer was more entertaining. If she got bored with investigating something, then she would twist the seat towards another area/toy.)

Although I don't think I introduced either to her until she was a bit older. 7-8-9 months. I can't remember exactly. At 4 months, his neck muscles are just now able to hold his head up. With the motion that the head has to balance when from jumping, I wouldn't have put a 4-month old into a jumperoo.

If you are looking for something to entertain a 4-6 month old, then I would suggest a tummy time activity mat, something like this: http://www.onestepahead.com/catalog/product.jsp?productId...

My son loved his exersaucer. Buy it used!!! He will only use it for a little bit and the used baby stores sell them much cheaper. Most of the toys can be taken off and washed and you should be able to take the seat out and wash it.

They each have their benefits. Have you thought about looking on the local craigslist for them, so that you could have both? I'm not normally a "more is more" kinda gal, but they really are very different. However, the jumperoo does offer a lot of fun and exercise for them, and if it has plenty of "stuff" to look at and play with, then I would go for the jumperoo.

My first child had both. We rarely used the jumperoo. He was bored after just a few minutes. The exersaucer was a life saver. He had so much to play with and was very entertained with toys, jumping up and down, and spinning around. I also think it is safer to leave them when you have to go to another room. I knew that was one of the must haves for the second child. It is worth the money, although a used one is ideal.

My daughter loved her exersaucer. She stayed in it until she was about 9 months. But...the best thing was it converted to a self standing entertainment center. She is now 15 months old and she still plays with it.

It is a great investment.

I suggest going with the exersaucer. All three of my kids loved it! I am currently using the same Evenflo exersaucer for my 5 month old boy that I bought back in 2001 for my first baby (who is now 8 years old). They are so easy to clean!

The exersaucer that I have has three different height levels to accommodate them as they grow taller. They can turn 360 degrees and they just love attacking the assortment of toys. I was in Babies R Us not too long ago and noticed that they sell additional toys for the exersaucer so you periodically switch out the toys to give them something "new" to play with.

A friend of mine gave me a Jumperoo and my little boy likes it for just a short while. I find the Jumperoo a bit more cumbersome to move from one doorway to another. Plus, not all of the rooms in my house have a doorway that would accommodate the Jumperoo so it somewhat limits what room I can do work in while he is in it.

The exersaucer gets my vote!

Hope this helps!
K.

We bought an exersaucer that has a seat that turns 360 degress. He loves it. He just turned 5 months. It has an adjustable "floor" that bounces as well. I would recommend to buy it at a second hand store if you can. Our's new was only $40, but they can get pricy. Good luck!

Hi-

We had the Evenflo Exersaucer that each of our 3 children used. Then when I had our 3rd a neighbor loaned me her Jumperoo so my 3rd child actually had both. He actually only used the Jumperoo 2 or 3 times otherwise we used the exersaucer. If we had only had the one, he probably would have used it more but the exersaucer seemed to take up a lot less space so it was always out and more convenient than the jumperoo. Also, we did not have the Precious Planet style so it may have more toys and things for him to do than ours did, but the jumperoo that we had didn't really seem to have much for him to play with while the exersaucer had many toys and sounds for him. Also, he liked to turn himself around in the exersaucer to see us and the jumperoo stays stationary so he would get frustrated if we weren't in front of him.

Good luck,
K.

I would go with the precious planet jumperoo so he can bounce around too. My son had something simular but his had a flooring it was kind of like a cross between the two but he could still bounce around.

I highly recommend the Jumperoo! My daughter LOVED her's and used it for long after she was too big for it! Her cousins (two boys) loved there's too.

The exersaucer is nice too, but doesn't use up quite as much energy!

I didn't have a jumperoo, but when I worked in daycare we had several exersaucers so I bought one for my baby when she was little. I also bought a jumper you hang from a doorway. Unfortunately we moved to a place that had no doorjams and so I really wanted a jumperoo!

I read the 3 star reviews for the Precious Planet Jumperoo on Amazon and they said it's very big and heavy so once you get it together it is NOT very portable. Well, my hanging jumper went with us everywhere- friend's house, out of town, grandma's house ect. It was very portable. We also took the exersaucer with us as we could collapse it and slide it under the seats or put it in the trunk. Moving it (or the hanging jumper) from room to room was easy too, so I could take baby to whatever room I was cleaning. A HUGE plus.

Also, my babies didn't like jumping so much as they liked swinging in the jumper. They would jump and put their feet up and swing and twirl in it- they can't do that in the jumperoo. I don't think my kids would have liked it as much. And the exersaucer they can walk around in circles. They DO jump a bit in the exersaucer.

Conclusion- get the saucer AND buy a door hanging jumper from a resale shop, garage sale, borrow it or buy it new but if you have door jams they are fantastic. Our new home has them and I used my jumper with 4 kiddos and they all loved it. I have used three different kinds and the ones with a tray are my favorite- the act as a bumper when the baby is very wild and you can put snack on it and they will sit there and it their cheerios (make sure you always keep an eye on an eating baby, though.)

First be sure that you do have the space for the jumperoo, also if you have the floor plan right for the saucer and that your house and your child be safe with the saucer. Decide from there which one will work the best. I used both.

The jumperoo takes up lots of space and is not as easy to move around. My first son loved the exersaucer b/c he could jump in it (it had springs for him to do so) and he would have loved the jumperoo. But by the time it came out it wasn't worth spending the money on another toy he would only be in for a month or two. I bought the jumperoo for my second son, but he didn't really care for it much. I guess what I'm trying to say is that each kid is different. If it is a space issue go with the saucer. Hope that helps some! :)

I didn't have either with my first son but got an exersaucer as a gift for the second one. It was so wonderful I sometimes wondered how I managed without it the first time around. Like another post, if he got tired of one thing he rotated around to something else. Another thing about the toys on it is that you can buy new ones and swap them out so you can keep it interesting. I have loaned it to 2 other couples since my son and they all raved about it. I don't remember at what age I started my son in it. He was a strong little boy so he may have been around 4 months. It's so nice to be able to put them in it and not worry about them rolling or crawling away.

My son absolutely loved the Jumperoo. However, so much that when it was time for his walker and time to walk, all he wanted to do was jump. He was a delayed walker. I think I'd go with the exersaucer over the Jumperoo.

I have a five month old with Down's and marked for developmental delays anyway, so I'm veering away from both and focusing on activities to get her to crawling and walking as quick as we can. If I do use something upright, I'll probably resort to the walker.

There are advantages to both. While the Jumperaroos offer alot more jumping and bouncing, and offers 4 height adjustments which stretches user time to almost a year, they don't offer mobility and toy/activity variety. While excersaucers offer lots of toys and activities (some you can even interchange, 360 swivel and mobility on some, it doesn't provide the jumping little legs love to do.

The excersaucer was good for entertainment and stationary enough for us to feed him snacks in it. The jumparoo was great for us b/c my son was able to burn more bouncing energy and I feel made his legs nice and strong. Obviously get what you think will be best for your son but at 4 months it might be hard to determine until he starts sitting up/crawling.

Whatever you get, they have so many options your little guy will have a great time no matter what you get him. Have fun watching him grow!

Jumperoo definitely! My son started in the jumperoo at about 3 1/2 months old until he was 1 yr. I like it because it can be adjusted in height, they get to do the same developmental activities as the exersaucer but the jumping is what he really liked! He would laugh & scream with joy whenever he jumped. Not to mention, I really believe that all that jumping helped strengthen his legs therefore was crawling at 5 months & fully walking at 9 months. I have bought one of these for all of my friends that recently had babies & they thank me over & over!

I don't know about the Jumperoo althought I have never known any Fisher Price product to be anything other than great.......but I bought my daughter the Evenflo Megasaucer
and she and my granddaughter love it... It gives her so much to do that my daughter said she and her husband got to sit through a nice supper with baby content in it while they ate.

I used a Fisher Price jumper, (they can jump in it) it has the seat that is adjustable height straps, & spins all the way around so they can play with all the activities on it. It has monkeys & other light & sounds & spinning things. Really neat! I am selling mine its like new, if you're in the Deer Park Pasadena area & are interested I can email you photos.

My son is 9 months and he has outgrow the Einstein exisaucer, but still likes the jumparoo (Fisher Price Rain Forest). He enjoyed the exisaucer for about 3 months, but he's crawling now, so he lasts in the jumparoo about 15-20 minutes and is very bored w/the exisaucer. I bought the Einstein full price and the Jumparoo off Craigslist for 1/2 price - Wish I had done the same w/the Einstein.
