Hey moms and dads! My kids birthday is not until August, but I"m due with our third child in September so trying to get an early start on planning (yes, very early!!).

My kids want to do a faux slumber party. They want to invite 11 kids (ages 2-11) and I have two additional older kids to invite (14/16) who will 'assist me' (older siblings of 2 of the kids my children will invite) incase parents want to drop their kids off, leave and come back (I'm totally okay with this!).

I had planned on having them come over around 5-530 in their pajamas and bring a blanket and/or stuffed animal. Dance party / Dinner for the first hour. Crafts for the 2nd hour. Then when hubby gets home from work (7ish), we can do cake/presents. Then the last 1/2-1, we'll have them 'settle' down for books and/or a cartoon.

Am I missing anything? For those of you who have done a simliar party, was there anything that you did/didn't do for a party like this? Got a great discount on favor bags and a few favors and will have the craft probably be something easy that all ages of kids can do/enjoy. Oh, and we'll do two cakes - one donut tower and probably one REAL cake that looks like donuts (ie: breakfast part of the sleepover).

Thanks for indulging this over-preparing mama :)

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

And here is what I was thinking in the invites:

Come join us for a Faux Slumber Party...Wear your pajamas and bring your blanket and/or favorite stuffed friend.
Dinner will be served and we'll do all the things you do at a normal slumber party minus the sleeping over!
Mom and Dad - feel free to drop the kids off and pick them up later....or stay and enjoy the fun!!

Patty K - should have specified - the group of kids have ALWAYS been invited to my children's birthday parties (friends of the family) and have always enjoyed my kids parties. My kids are the ones that will be turning 4 and 6 and the friends we invite are family friends' kids - thus why the large spread. However, I have never had a problem with the older kids being 'bored' at any of our parties!! Just wanted to clarify!

As far as the music - I will have it 'hip' for the older kids, too. My hubby and the kids listen to a huge variety of music so there will be lots of radio songs on, not toddler/baby-ish music.

LOVE it!

Try Googling Parents magazine and "kids party ideas" because they did an awesome layout a few years ago on EXACTLY this! The table was decorated like a bed and the craft was decorating pillow cases, which was perfect! I don't remember all of the details, but it looked like a great party and the kids will love it!

Just some thoughts...
- Flashlight tag for the older kids
- Decorating pillowcases
- Popcorn and a "movie" (cartoon)
- Pizza (if you are OK with them eating in front of the movie)
- Have them create and "tell" a spooky story

You can just call it a Pajama Party. Just be sure to write down the pick up time! My daughter loves anything that requires her to wear PJs.

Have fun!

Be sure to have different activities set up for diff age groups since you
seem to be having diff age groups.
Make them age appropriate.
Be sure to have crafts for diff ages.
And have a movie for age groups (cartoon one for kids ((they won't watch
in it's entirety)) & 1 for the teens)
Be sure to have plenty of food AND snacks! Esp for the teens.
Keep a bowl of chips & pretzels out at ALL times. ;)
Make sure your music is hip for the teen set.
Books? Might work for the younger set but not the older set.
Keep in mind....not everyone may feel comfortable dancing & that is ok.
Invite wording sounds great.
For food: add pizza, diff kinds of drinks, popcorn.

Your party sounds great. Have fun.

Cute idea.

I would call it a Pajama Party instead of a sleepover. Especially since parents will be dropping off. You MAY end up with a few true 'sleepover' guests...

- popcorn
-chips
-ice cream sundaes

The age range is nuts. Two years old toddlers. I am sure the bigger kids will really be thrilled with that. Sorry, but in my opinion it is a huge mistake. Let the big kids have there special time. Seven and nine ok. 9 and 11 ok. Three and five, no. You will be stuck with crying babies and not be able to
Attend to the older kids. I get the feeling this is your first try at a sleepover.

I have never heard of a faux slumber party.

An hour for an easy craft is waayyyyy too long. If you want to engage them in a craft for an hour, it better be more involved than something simple that a 2 year old can do. Otherwise, you'll have the older kids done in 10 minutes and nothing else for them to do.

Maybe you could put a game in between craft and cake/presents. Bingo comes to mind. The older ones can help the younger or maybe just the older ones play and let the younger ones finish their craft.

I hate to say it, but I think you are going to have a REALLY hard time getting them to calm down for books and/or cartoons.
