Sooo happy Friday to all of you mama's and papa's,

This is my life pressing question of the moment. What have you learned about you lately?

When I sleep I clench(sp?) my teeth and generally tense up. Totally wierd! Also when I take a drink I slide my tongue back and forth.... The stupid things you notice about yourself! Anyone else do this?

What can I do next?

HaHa-I slide my tongue back and forth when I drink too--I think of it as the suckling response from when we were babies!

Also, I have such a set routine for getting ready for bed, that if I forget to do something, I will just Not do it and (maybe) realize it later. Like, hey, I forgot to brush my teeth but i'm already cozy in my bed and the bacteria are just going to have their way tonight...

Also, my mom used to whistle all of the time when I was growing up and it could be somewhat annoying. I was in the restroom at work today and came out to wash my hands and another worker said, "I thought that was you--heard you whistling." I'm whistling just like my mother arghhhhh!!!!

I talk to my plants when I work in the garden. Not in a 'so how are you today? Did you notice the rain last Thursday?', but more of a muttery "oh, sweetie, those slugs....".

I do talk to birds, though, out in the open and unabashed. They're sweet little things, those birdies! And when the crows get talking loudly, I might even ask them what's going on. Crazy bird lady.

I clench my jaw and grind my teeth when I sleep and I clench my jaw when I drive. I have a mouthgaurd to sleep with and I try to keep my lips closed and teeth apart when I drive.

I put chap stick on every time I eat, drink, lick my lips, wash my face or kiss someone.

When I hear a baby crying I often catch myself rocking back and forth, even though I am not holding a baby.

Cute post.

I am surprised with all the teeth grinders. Now I know I am not alone. I do wear a mouth guard at night and have for years. The $500 for it far outweighs the damage. I have 4 porcelon crowns on molars, not due to decay but because I was so bad I cracked my teeth. I sometimes wear my guard during the day, especially when I catch myself doing it.

I love to sleep in a nice warm bed but 1 foot has to be out of the covers and in the fresh air.

My stupid moment is freaking out that I've lost my phone only to realize I have it in my hand OR I am talking on it.

Have a great weekend!

I use only one hand to blow my nose. I guess I never paid attention since that's how my mom does it!

Teeth clenching during sleep is very common. It might be that your bite is out of alignment, and your jaw is trying to find the correct bite, or it could be that you are grinding your teeth due to stress. I also do this when under stress. It can become a problem if you do it for too long--it can damage the shape of your teeth and cause problems, or it can also give you severe headaches.

If you're doing it, I'd talk to a dentist to see the reason and possible treatments. When I was in college I had a custom-made mouthguard which helped me. Then I didn't grind for several years, until I had kids and they weren't sleeping well at night. Any time my kids go through phases where they aren't sleeping well, I start to grind again. Last week I was at the dentist and they mentioned a few possible treatment plans: 1) a night guard (my preference); 2) Invisalign (dual purpose since I need braces anyways); 3) Botox injections to relax those muscles (not an option if pregnant).

When I wash my face, I swallow every time I splash water on my face. I tried not to and I couldn't.
I can only fall asleep in a certain position- on my left side, right hand under pillow, and right knee pulled up to my chest, with my head on the bottom right corner of the pillow.
