I was just wondering where you all keep your kitchen garbage cans? After a day of scrubbing the kitchen, I got to thinking maybe I should move ours to a different place? I keep mine "out" in the corner of the kitchen. I know some keep theirs under a cabinet or somewhere else out of sight.
Just curious!
Thanks.
Garbage
Yardwaste (includes all food -veg, animal, mineral-, paper plates, paper towels, etc.)
Recycling
2 are under the sink. Recycling is out.
When I build my island, I want all 3 under the island. Until then... they're where I can fit them!

I used to have one "out" in a pretty stainless steel job. Now that one is outside in the backyard where we pick up dog waste DAILY (the commitment to my husband that I made before getting a dog was to promise the boys wouldn't have a dirty yard to play in). Now I have a plastic trashcan out of sight under my sink counter. We never allow stinky trash though---if it's something yuck, I just put it in a little shopping bag and throw it in the big trash bin with the heavy lid, which is out in the garage.

Mine is under the sink, I like it hidden away. But I've had it out in the open before.

When we redid our kitchen last year, we had a cabinet built for the trash can. It is like a big drawer that slides out easily. I do have to empty it at least once a day, but its nicer than having it out like I did in the old kitchen.

Mine is out in the open in the corner of my kitchen too. This way if I need it quickly it is easy to grab.

We have a really small kitchen, so my husband built a cabinet unit out of the cabinets that were in the house before we redid the kitchen. It has flaps and looks a lot like the garbage units at fast food places, but not as big. Its on rollers (so we can move it when we need to expand our kitchen table), and has a nice counter top. I have it located at the entry of our house and I use the counter space to put my purse/diaper bag etc so its easily accessible before I leave the house.
I find most people expect the garbage under the kitchen sink---no one every realizes or notices the counter/island thing we have at our door entry even has our garbage cans in it. Makes me feel relieved I was worried about it.. I have child locks on it too so the kids can't get into the garbage but have free reign to throw their trash away. Only draw back is at other people's houses where the trash is out in the open they are always eager to get into it :)

I like mine out in the corner because I can see when someone missed. I would hate to think what could collect in a closet or cabinet when someone misses and I can't see it. Gross!

We have an L shaped kitchen and we have 2 trash cans. One is squarish for trash and the other is round with a swingy lid that is for "recycle". They are both on the side of the built in desk so its easy access for everyone. I don't think I have ever had a trash can inside a cabinet or pantry, it seems like it would be such a pain to throw stuff away. I don't know, I'm all for quick and easy. =)

I have a huge kitchen and huge pantry (about the size of a small baby nursery)
I keep 1 can under the sink and use it mostly when I am cleaning up dinner, preparing dinner, etc.
I keep 2 cans in my pantry, right at the door, super easy access, no one sees cans sitting out in the house.
For a family of 3, we have a lot of trash going out weekly.

Currently, under the counter in it's own cabinet.
In the past, in smaller kitchens, If I did not have space in cabinets for a medium size trash can, to be tucked out of the way, then I would opt for a smaller trash can in the kitchen, that could be quickly bundled and taken to a laundry room or garage trash can. And I would empty that nightly.

We have a stainless one with the foot pedal lid and we keep it in our pantry. We don't really have room under our sink, plus we needed the larger can. I do have a lock on my pantry to keep LO out so he can't get to it anyway. It get's emptied twice a week.

I keep mine in the cabinet under the sink.
before I had my son, I had a tall garbage bin (the kind you can open the lid by pressing the lever with your feet). I kept this next to the counter with the kitchen sink. It was convienient and easy to use. We didn't have to throw the garbage away everyday.
But now with the one under the sink , we need to clear it every day(which is good, according to M.). It's out of sight which I like. My 1.5 year old also knows to open the cabinet door and put any trash in there.

We have a tall stainless steel one with a foot-pedal opener. Our kitchen is a galley style that you have to walk through to get to the breakfast area. There isn't enough room to pass by if I keep the can close to the prep area, so it is all the way past the breakfast table, against the wall of windows. So far to walk to, but it is the best place I have found.
Under the sink doesn't work for us because it is a flip-up lid, and my cabinets have child locks on them.

We have two pantry's and the one that does not contain food, has the trash can in it. It is away behind closed doors that way when something smelly is in it the entire room does not stink. lol

I had mine in the garage, right outside the door that leads from my kitchen. But it was such a pain! I moved it into the kitchen, kind of in a little corner but it's still out in the open. So much easier. Not as pretty to look at though

Our pantry/laundry room and kitchen have no storage areas for a trash can. So it is sadly, in the middle of the kitchen back wall, the only place it will fit. Unfortunately, the hallway when we open our front door leads straight to the trashcan, it is the welcoming site to all who enter our home!

Many of my friends put their garbage cans in the cabinet right under the kitchen sink. But my family have always been too garbage-y to manage with a little can like that. I have a tall, stainless-steel can in the only place it can go - next to the fridge and close to the back door. So the trash is easy to take outside and it isn't more than a step or two from the counters (we have a small kitchen). It has one of those step-on-to-open lids on it, because when we have puppies here they would like to wish the trash can were their personal snack bar.
The back door opens right out onto a covered deck, and we keep the recycling bins right there. They're also handy, and they don't look bad - only "official" (recycling logo and all).
