JFF: What Book Does Your Toddler Make You Read over and over and over Again?

Yes, you know the one. The book you try to hide but they find it anyway. The book you can recite by heart because you read it infinite amount of times. Yeah, that one.

For me, it was Goodnight Moon but that was so 9 months.
Then it was "No Elephants" but that was so 14 months.
Now it's the Elmo's "Look and Find."

Every so often, "No Elephants" does get a reprise, but then again elephants and toddlers never forget.

So what's your little reader up to?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for sharing everyone. I'm actually writing down some of your titles that we've never read--yet! And yes, I wouldn't trade her love of reading for anything--even that darn elephant and Gramma Tildy!

My daughter is three. Green Eggs and Ham. I can quote almost the entire book from memory. I love Dr Suess, but I am so sick of Sam and his eggs. :)

LOL... i listened to a 'Love of Reading' interview when I was pregnant, and got the world's BEST tip:

Only buy books YOU like for your young children.

Why?

Because of your body language and tone of voice... which toddlers understand better than spoken language.

So our trips to the bookstore meant I read EVERYTHING, a couple times, before I bought it. Only if *I* loved it (as well as him) did we buy it. LOL... for a few years, in fact, a few mom's thought I was Barnes & Nobel's "story time lady". Because I read out loud & do voices... so in "previewing" books for my son, I'd be reading out loud to him... and a whole little garden of faces would start to turn up! Because we were so broke, and the bookstore is free (and warm and dry; key in seattle, the warm and dry part!) we were there at LEAST once a week. We usually only bought a book once a month, but B&N doesn't care if you buy or not as long as you're polite.

Did we get books (as gifts) that I hated? Yup. And I very guilt free donated them to the library!

So the books we read 10 million times, fortunately, were ones I liked, too!

When my daughter was little, she loved Go Dog Go. I had to read it so many times after work every day. When my son was little, he didn't love books. My kids are 12 and 16 now, and I miss those sweet little books, enjoy them while you can :)

Our favorites (the ones I don't run screaming, even though we both know them by heart) are: "Back in My Arms" and "The Going to Bed Book." We also went through phases where we could only read "GoodNight Moon" or something with Dora in it... Honestly, though, I won't ever complain about a book-reading request from my girl--I hope she grows up loving books as much as I did/do!!

My son has really been into his kiddie Bible. I normally wouldn't think that was that bad, but he always finds the "bad" stories. You know, like the Ten Plagues when the Pharaoh wouldn't let the Israelites go and it ended up with all the firstborn sons being killed or when King Herod ordered the Slaughter of the Innocents. Seriously?? Thankfully, his Bible doesn't go into really detailed specifics, but it's enough that I'm answering some tough questions. If I didn't already know it, this is showing me that the Bible has some pretty hard core stories in it.

Right now it's either Brown Bear Brown Bear, which she can "read" all by herself as she memorized it at 2 1/2. Or, I have these English/Spanish educational books that are simply just a picture of the item and the word in English and Spanish. She loves them and has me read them to her.

When my 9 yr old was a baby and up to about age four, I read Good Night Moon so MANY times a day, EVERY day. I tried to get him interested in other books we had but he always had to have his moon book.

"Blue Shirt, Green Shirt" and "Peek-a-Who"--these are his favorites, but we're not running from it yet. He's 11 months, and we love that he is so interested in sitting to read. he even sits and reads to himself aloud. I LOVE IT!!
