JFF, Feeding My 1 Yr Old

It never ceases to amaze me that my baby (11 months old) will pick up any micro piece of junk on the floor anywhere and put it in his mouth, but when I put him in his high chair to eat, he throws the actual food on the floor or shakes his head no to it. Anyone have any insight?? Maybe I should start putting his dinner in the cats dish...

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

My little one is actually a good eater, he just doesnt devour his dinner with quite the same excitement as he has for floor items. I was cracking up at items discarded by the dog and eaten by baby.

Kids will drive you nutty if you let them.

I think the reason he puts everything in his mouth is because it is the best way for a baby to determine what it is. And yes, it's gross.

As far as his meals go only put a little on his tray at a time. One of two pieces of veggie, a small mound of whipped potatoes ect. leave the rest on his plate on the table or if he is not using a tray and pulled up to the table use a small bowl to put the food you give him and leave most of it on a plate or bowl out of his reach. As he eats a little give him one or two more pieces. Sometimes babies get overwhelmed by what looks to them to be large amounts of food.

Oh my god, why didn't I think of putting it in the cat bowl?!?!?! (A separate bowl used just for kiddo that just happens to look similar to the cat's bowl and sits on the floor, of course)

GENIUS!!! ;)

Both my kids, hated being in a high chair and hated eating while in a high chair. And I had a really good cool high chair... that Fisher Price one with jungle stuff on it. They just hated being in one and eating in one.
I used a seat that you strap onto the regular dining chair. They ate that way and were fine.
Or, they sat at their own kid sized table with kid sized chairs.

Brilliant thought but alas don't give him any ideas. LOL... The good news is you aren't alone in this matter. My son and pug were in competition - who could get to the UGO (unidentified ground object) first. The dead worst - the UGO being rejected by the dog and scooped up by my son. Shudder.
