JFF: Extremes Your Child Would Go To, to Grab Your Attention...

I do video chat with mine and DH's parents sometimes (they don't live in the same country as us), and they all like to watch DD. She (DD) usually calmly plays, talks, and shows all her new tricks to them. The funny thing is, if I ever happen to start an adult conversation with my mom (no one else - not my dad, MIL, or FIL), DD gets all jealous and excited.

She'd get her play bowl and spoon and poke her spoon into my mouth and make me mock-eat, or she'd wave her hands at grandma, until grandma talks to her instead. Sometimes, she'd pull her pants down. The best extreme she's done so far, she'll climb over the couch, get between me and the laptop, hug me crazy, and will hold my mouth closed with her tiny fingers. Lol.

What funny antics do your kids resort to, in order to grab your attention?

So What Happened?

Dawn - Grandma (and all others) always talks to her first. After half hr of DD-grandparents time, I try to squeeze in 5 min of conversation...:) And DDs routines mostly only last for a few seconds each. And I agree with you, pulling down her pants is a no-no. She knows that if she does that, I give her the No look. She stares back for 2 seconds, smiles, and pulls it back up.

Marda P. - If my DD was giving me trouble whenever I spoke to anyone, or if she misbehaved and I am unable to discipline her, I think I'd have titled my question as a 'Help me moms, I am freaking out!'. I think I'd know if my child needs to be disciplined more, or if she is doing OK. There isn't a discipline issue here. DD is very sociable, and a well-behaved child. Like I mentioned, they are just her playful antics which she does with me and her grandma only, at times. Nothing that is out of control, and no big tantrums that play out for a good deal of time. Funny acts that lasts for seconds, but leave memories that bring a smile later in life.
Although I appreciate your taking time to answer and share your suggestion, I must respectfully point out that this is not a help question. I'd be glad to hear moms and dads sharing any funny stories, if they wish to.

Funny (except for the pulling down of the pants part - I wouldn't allow her to do that).

I recommend that you let her talk to Grandma first. She'll get bored with it and then you can have the conversation. It's cute now while she's really little, but it won't be so cute when she starts having temper tantrums while you are talking to the bank or the electric company, or if she starts getting a little smart-mouthed. Best to deal with re-directing it at this earlier stage.

My little boy will pretend to trip and fall. He'll come limping over so I can cover him with hugs and kisses.

Sorry, these don't sound like funny antics to me. I'd teach her to respect my space and my ability to have my own conversations. I'd remove her from the room if she's old enough to go to her room by herself. Or I would stop my conversation and get her involved with something else away from the computer. Have a conversation with her about respect.

Nothing beats the old clinging to the leg for dear life antic! If I have my headset on in the car she'll say "M. take the phone off!"
