Mythbusters I think actually proved that this ''myth'' is plausible. It was started by some Elder a long, long time ago.
So, my daughter has recently been expanding her movie repertoire and has started watching "Dumbo." My question is this... Where on earth did the myth that elephants are afraid of mice come from???

Damn, does this mean they can't fly out of burning buildings as well?!
:)
I was gonna comment but theresa has me laughin so hard I forgot what the hell I was gonna say :)
Well, I don't know.. but why are adults (well some) scared of small creatures like spider and other nasty bugs... they are 1000X smaller than us, but I bet you know someone that freaks out all the time when they see them... I have 2 kids and a husband right off the bat...
Someone already mentioned mythbusters and that's right! They did prove it! i was totally shocked but it was really funny to watch! :o)
It's supposed to be because they have poor eyesight. They apparently can't tell WHAT a mouse is, so it scares them, they don't know if they are threats. Just something I saw on TV once (not mythbusters, an animal program).
actually it's not a myth it's actually true

This is what snopes has to say. http://www.snopes.com/critters/wild/elephant.asp
I don't know where it came from, but it is true! Mythbusters tested it. It is not necessarily mice, but small, moving objects of which they are afraid.
LOL - I have no idea, but hope that someone does! I will have to check back........you have peaked my curiosity.
