I have never had personal plates. I just can't imagine spending extra money on it. I'd rather save that money for something else. But if you can and have it, then good for you!
I've had personal plates on my cars since I was 16: Faith85 (name and year I graduated) and ImFaith, and a few others in between but I can't remember. So I'm thinking of getting something else, so is hubby.
Do you have a personal plate? What's it say and what's it mean? Whats the funniest one you've seen?
BTW, I hate when I know its a personal plate but can't figure out what it means! LOL! =) TGIF friends!
OneandDone, what's your point? If I list my plates on here, is someone going to come to Gilbert and try to track me down by my personal plates? And I drive around with them, I don't know how much more public you can get. I guess if someone wanted to follow me home, they could. Personal plates don't have any other safety issue than a regular plate does, in my opinion. =)

No. I dont like calling attention to myself.
I've seen a lot of fun clever Aggie plates around College Staion.
One memorable plate I saw as DRTHV8R
I saw one online that said HIOFICER
I used to but then it occurred to me that the way I drive it is not a good idea to make my car easier to remember. :p
How obtuse do you have to be to actually give your plate number (vanity or other) on a public forum where crazy people abound?
ETA: Just saying, when people stalk other members on here, which HAS happened, (I had O. 'multifaceted' member try to and try and TRY to find me on Facebook so she could 'put a face with the name'), I see that as obsession...more than borderline creepy, as others were drawn in to her scheme as well.....She freely admits that as a government recruiter, she has access to "legal hackers" and can "find anyone". So, I think it's foolish to use your name and plate on a public forum. We need to use the common sense we were given! And yes, a name, DL, address and birthdate, as well as freely using the names of your husband & kids, makes it all the easier for a CRAZY person to make your life unpleasant.
ETA#2: In PA, A personalized registration plate may contain a combination of up to seven letters and numbers. O. hyphen or O. space is permitted, but not both. Just sayin'.....
ETA #3: @Cheryl--YES! You summed up her MO PERFECTLY!
I've never had one, but I've thought of getting one since I'm getting married! :-)
"MRS V"
Oneanddone: Tell me, what are the "crazy people" going to do with your plate information if you share it here?
I think it's pretty obtuse that you think crazy people have access to license plate databases. Pretty paranoid, actually.
Not anymore.
Granted this was 25+ years ago and an extreme experience, but it was enough to scare me.
The condensed version is that I was followed home from work, (large suburban hospital) and threatened because a woman thought I was the Lori that 'killed' her son. Apparently her son killed himself after his girlfriend, Lori, broke up with him. I admit that part of it was having my name LoriL. But we'll have to agree to disagree on this one, I don't think it matters what it says or what the cryptic message may be, it is much easier to remember vanity plates than numbers and letters in some random order.
I don't have one-but I think they're cool-I saw a picture of one the other day on a gorgeous Mercedes, that said "RG32DC (Robert Griffin III going to the Redskins) and I thought that was really clever! I would like one that says "STPTG8NG-can you figure that out??
We live in KS and a lot of people have vanity plates. They must be really cheap. I have a Florida State plate and my husband has a regular state plate that says USMA 98 (United States Military Academy c/o '98).
My brother use to have a BMW M3 and his plate said: UCR M3 (You See Our M3).
My aunt got the American Heart Association plate and put my son's name on it 'Jack' because he was born with a complex congenital heart defect.
Others I've seen and really liked: 2xx2xy (2 girls/2 boys) and my3boys
a local one here says HI M8NC
"hi maintenance" its a suped up hummer
I have Virginia Tech plates that say "KLK 82". Those are my maiden name initials and the year I graduated. I don't especially like the way they are called "vanity plates" Because I can think of alot more vain things to do than that. Can't think of any funny plates I've seen. I know what you mean about the ones you can't understand.
We bought one for our motorhome - it's a spoof of our last name with the Wally World Nat Lampoons theme and the moose!!!!
We're driving cross country out to CA this summer, so it fits!!!
It's also dated 2012, so we're just using it for this one trip.
I've never had one. One that just popped in my mind, when I went into labor with my son I remember seeing a fancy red convertable with the license plate STORK. Funny, now that I think about it, my mom would always tell us that babies came from the stork, LOL.
My Grandma has "RShoes" on her licence plate. She LOVES shoes, can you tell?
I have D.. I have a VW Beetle and want to put daisies on it. :)
No, I don't have them but it's only because I'm not clever enough to come up with one! The best I've seen around here is a heating/air conditioning company has RUHOT and RUCOLD. Makes me laugh everytime I see their trucks!
i dont have one but the best i saw was : H2OUDUM....
I have seen around town one of those big (15?) passenger vans and the plate reads "MORMONS" while the plate cover says "My Big Mormon Wagon" and the entire stretch of the back window is covered with the little family people stickers.
I know they are popular stickers and I usually see a man, woman, 2-3 kids, and maybe a dog... but there had to have been 20+ sticker people on the back of that van!
I have *always* wanted one to go with my name, which is 'Karma' but every variation you can think of, of it, is already taken! Darn it!
I agree..who has access but cops and such to those databases? Maybe I am blissfully ignorant.
I do not have them. They are an additional charge. They are not too crazy ridiculous, but still more here. As to the name "vanity plates"...as a kid, and even till not many years ago, I only knew them as personalized plates. I like that better!
My hubby and I had a drag race car that was street legal, just barely. It had personalized plates. NVR2QIK. In drag racing you can never be too quick!
Locally we frequently see a little black square thing (a Scion or other cube shaped thing?) with the plates MRBUNZ. On the side door it says the name of some small bakery! HA!
Here in Mn the limit is 7 characters including spaces.
