Jazzing up Brown Rice - Need Ideas!

I'm going to cook some salmon tonight, I have a recipe that uses basil, spinach, pesto and garlic - you spread it on the salmon filets after pureeing the mixture and bake. It says to serve over 2/3 cups brown rice. I'm just worried the brown rice will be bland. I'm not good at "free-styling" in the kitchen ;-) how can I easily jazz up the rice?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks, good ideas. I think I'll try the stir fry method, sounds yummy and easy! And maybe I'll add in some shredded carrots and peas and broccoli, I have some leftover!

sautee up some onions and garlic in a little evoo. Then put rice in and "stir fry" a min or two. Then cook like directions but use chicken broth instead of water.

Salt, peas, garlic, lots of herbs? Brown rice is so good for you, but I have a hard time getting over the taste/texture when it's alone :) Make it like a pilaf:

Some pineapple (and a little juice) will add a lot of sweetness to it!

Brown rice is generally not bland, so I don't think you need to worry very much, but you could toss the cooked rice with some butter, garlic, and chopped basil. In the alternative, you could add 1 t chicken bouillon, some chopped garlic, and some basil to the cooking liquid before you cook it. It will be great no matter what you do to the rice! Have fun!

Heat some chopped walnuts up in a dry saute pan...watch them, they only take a minute or 2 to brown. Toss your brown rice with a little olive oil and the walnuts to enhance the flavor. Also squeeze a dash of lemon over your dish before serving. The brightness from the lemon is a PERFECT compliment to both the heaviness of the pesto and also the flavor of the salmon.

Do you have room for 1 more at your table? This sounds yummy!!
