Honestly, if parents are dealing with truly challenging, defiant children, they should be talking to medical professionals. We have a son with ADHD and ODD (among other conditions) and the professional sessions with therapists and a psychiatrist have proved far more beneficial than any of the at-home programs we tried as parents.

I spoke to 2 families that used the program a few years ago to see if it would work for us due to some issues with my daughter. They both told me the money spent on the programs would have been better spent on something else. One said she spent about $500, while the other said he spent $800. The program has good concepts but does not help get to the root. Both families also had the kids see therapists and both said the therapist is the one they give credit to for helping them. One told me that the therapist was able to help them relate to their kids better and helped their kids understand that mom and dad are not out to destroy their lives.

Get the book easy to love, difficult to discipline. Troubled behavior is behavior that is seeking control. Kids aren't "defiant," per say, but rather just seeking respect and a sense of control in an insane world. They need rules, consistence and love.

The above book is recommended by tons of social workers, child psychologists, etc. It's a great place to start if you have a troubled kid. And it's much cheaper.

My BIL took it upon himself to purchase this system for us when our oldest was 8. We took a look at it, but decided it wasn't for us.

Around the same time, I attended a seminar on Love and Logic at our school. I started implementing some of those techniques and got a good result when used consistently.

We have recently sought the help of a psychologist which has been very beneficial.

It is a commercial that gets me yelling at the TV. Never tried it but based on the little bit on non information they give it couldn't possibly work.

It reminds me of the we have a magic pill that you can eat all you want, not move and lose hundreds of pounds.

I agree with everyone else, find a good therapist.

Sounds like it's primarily successful for the person selling it. These gimmicks don't usually work long term. Sometimes people say they work because they need to justify the amount of money they have shelled out. I believe you also tried a type of electrode technique about a year ago perhaps - but that hasn't brought your child or the rest of the family the level of relief you need either.

There are both external and internal things that can be done for a defiant child (or one with attention issues, rage, violence, etc.) - there are behavioral techniques, guided by a professional who can keep both parents totally on track. There are medications - not everyone wants to go that route because it's just treating symptoms and not getting at the cause, and there is the expense, and there are side effects. Then there is the internal method which gets to the epigenetic reasons for these problems, the improper switching on and off of genes that can create all kinds of physical and behavioral problem. With advances in epigenetics and a dietary ingredient that can influence gene expression (turn on the good gene as it's supposed to be and turn off the bad genes), the cells in any part of the body can be restored to their proper functioning. This can lead to better health in many ways including chemical issues that result in negative behaviors, attention issues, rage, and so on.

I think grasping at straws with no assurance of success other than the ads for an expensive program is probably going to be very frustrating for you. You've been dealing with this for a long time and my heart goes out to this poor child whose body is betraying him.
