I absolutely love the name.. sounds beautiful.. I gave my youngest the middle name of Lynn think it gives the name a nice rounding off.. My daughters name is Maia Lynn..
Try not to worry about the family.. they will love the name when they meet the girl who will bear the name.. sounds wonderful to me..

Doesn't appeal to me as the birth name... I always imagine a potential baby name on an application/resume and that is not something I'd initially have a good first, serious impression from. Ivy would be a good nickname though.

Pretty name! I would tell my family they will know what the baby's name is when she's out and in my arms. They don't get a say in naming a baby. Ridiculous.

Just a note- in the future, don't share the names with friends and family ahead of time. It only causes angst for you and hubby. I have twins and I didn't tell anyone their names until they were born. Even then I caught some flack "what are you going to call them for short?". I stuck to my guns though, now at 8 yrs old their full names are all that they use. (the names are 3 and 4 syllables)

awww, that's MY name :-) I'm 32 and only met maybe 2-3 people with my name. If you want a unique name I say go for it. Hmmm let's see, the only "bad" nickname I was called was Poison Ivy. But it wasn't really that bad.

Who care what anyone else likes? Your family will love her no matter what and the name will work for her and they'll learn to love it. Even if they don't, it is not their decision. I have one girl name picked out that no one in our family likes, but my husband and I have had it chosen for 5 years ( we have 2 boys).

We are expecting girl number 2, and we have decided that when (or if) we ever decide on a name (haha) we are going to keep it to ourselves until the princess is born. With out first daughter we hated the faces people occasionally made when we said what her name would be or the little comments and other "better" suggestions that people would make. Once she was born and the name was attached to a person no one ever made another suggestion. We both still think it was the perfect name!
Now our only problem is finding a name we love as much as our first daughter, Madelyn Renee. :)
If you like Ivy Lynn and your husband agrees go for it!

Hi Allison,
I see that you already have a lot of responses, but thought I would give you another. If you and your husband love the name, go for it! Don't tell your family anymore about the name-or ask their input. Tell them matter of factly that you have decided to name the baby Ivy Lynn. Good luck!

That's why we didnt tell anyone our baby name before she was born. Name the baby what you like, and they'll get used to it. If they dont like it, they dont have to name their baby that.

I generally like short middle names like Lynn better than long ones and I think Ivy is really pretty and it sounds good with Mya. Instead of saying "We're thinking of Ivy Lynn" just tell them your decision more definitely when asked!

I happen to really like it!
I think the problem with asking for advice or mentioning names you like is that you will find some people who like them and some people who will tell you they hate the idea.
Coming up with a name is hard enough. My daughter was 4 days old before her own dad and I could agree, let alone anyone else giving a thumbs up.
Pick a name you really love, and if you have trouble, sometimes seeing your baby helps make up your mind.
I worked with a young woman who was pregnant and the office manager asked her if she had any names picked out. The young woman said the girl's name and the office manager literally put her finger in her mouth like she was going to make herself throw up. It was hands down just about the rudest thing I've ever seen. The name was Emily, for heaven's sake.
Anyway, I think Mya and Ivy sound cute together for sisters.
If you and your husband like it, that's really all that matters.
Best wishes!

Ivy goes PERFECTLY with Mya. Ignore your family. It's your child! Once they meet her, they will love the name.
The middle name is a bit boring (unless its a family name). My middle name is Lynn so I feel ok saying that! lol
I like these mn's with Ivy:
Ivy Catherine
Ivy Kate
Ivy Meredith
Ivy Charlotte
Ivy Blake
Ivy Delaney
Ivy Samantha
Ivy Helena
Ivy Leilani
Ivy Penelope
Ivy Francis
Ivy Cheyenne
Ivy Caroline

As long as you and hubby like it, OH WELL if the others don't. They'll get over it when Ivy is born. Or maybe THEY'LL call her Lynn and you'll call her Ivy (IS that okay with you?)
I think it's okay. I really like the Lynn. Ivy's just okay.

I think it is lovely - remind your family that it is YOUR child, and if they have kids of their own, they already got to name them what they wanted. Also, google "Bad Baby Names" and see what you find - then refer them to that.
I also like A.L.'s suggestions (especially Ruby Lynn) but if you go with a 1 syllable middle name, I think a 2 syllable name sounds better. Some people will always come up with what they think is a "better name" and kids will always find something about almost any name to make fun of! Or she might be born and you will see her and decide if she is really an Ivy or not.

It sounds pretty and it looks like it belongs together. As far as your family is concerned...remember this is you and hubby's child, you get to decide.
My sister hated my middle child's name, she still does...she calls him by his middle name (which is WAY cute and gets under-used) and I love it! Best of both worlds.
Congrats!

If you and hubby like it, that is all that matters. This is your baby and you have the final choice. Go with your opinion not your family. I love Ivy, that was on my list once as well. Don't let others change your name choice, if you change the name because not every one loved it, you may regret that decision in the future. My opinion is only the people that participated in the creation get to make those decisions.

Guess what, good news: its your baby, you & your husband get to decide! I agree that sharing names with anyone ahead of time other than the hubby is a bad idea and only is a set-up for hurt feelings. People, even the most loving of family, think it is so helpful to offer up suggestions when in fact it is none of their business and their answer should be, if ever the issue arises in conversation: "Whatever name you decide on will be beautiful." Once your little girl is here I can guarantee they will happily & lovingly call her whatever you decide to name her. Has a grandparents love ever really been tarnished by a grandbaby's name? : )
I happen to think that Ivy Lynn is BEAUTIFUL! I had a friend in college with the name Ivy and it was perfect for her, not to mention beautiful & original!

It sounds pretty, but my first thought upon seeing the name was Ivy League. However, if she just goes by the name Ivy, then that is not an issue. Many people rarely use their middle name.
Regardless, if you like it, USE IT! It's your daughter and you can name her as you see fit.

I think what matters most is if you and your husband like it and if it fits for you! There will ALWAYS be someone who says something about whatever name you choose. I know in my family every single name has been praised and criticized by different people or it's been confusing because there are 20 of them, like John or Steven :-). BTW, I'd be one of the people who would like it.
updage: LOL to Lynn L. I bet you've heard the song over and over too. A fun discussion with friends, as there is a song for a lot of names!
