IUI Question:

I recently went for a consultation with a fertility center and after talking to the doctor, my husband and I decided to give an IUI a try. My period just started today, so I called in to start my IUI, but realized that I will be away on a business trip all next week. They told me that they need me to be at the office for an ultrasound right after I come back from my business trip. I heard that stress will effect any procedure that you decide to have. So should I go try this procedure and see if it works or wait for another month when I am at home with no stress? Any opinion would be appreciated!

What can I do next?

We did 6 IUIs and 2 IVFs and from start to finish the whole process is stressful and emotional. I say none of this to scare you. The blood work and ultrasound are demanding on your schedule (as you learned) and the hormone injections are tough on your body. I had many sleepless nights and 2 miscarriages. I finally got pregnant and then had contractions at 24 weeks and was on bedrest and monitored closely until I made it until 37 weeks. My IVF baby turned 5 last week and it has been the most awesome 5 years I could have hoped for. It's def. not for everyone, but to answer your question, do it now. It's stressful no matter what and then being a parent is over the top.

If you just started your period, it'll be roughly 2 weeks till your next ovulation by which time you'll be back from your trip.
It's up to you if you want to wait or not.

I'd go ahead and go. The first time you do this (and hopefully the last time) is going to be stressful anyway due to so many unknown factors. Good luck!

If you feel in your heart that you are ready, then go for it! I did IUI a couple of years ago and we were both super stressed at the time. We were about to move country, I was doing lots of overtime at work to pay off bills before giving up my job, we had extended family dramas etc, seriously the list was endless.
What I'm trying to say is even if you put it off for another month, or even another month after that, there will always be stresses, ones you don't see coming. The key is to find ways of dealing with it effectively because the whole procedure will take longer than a month. If it works you will need to try and be stress free for the next 9 months after that.
We had 1 try at IUI and in fairness the whole procedure was a lot simpler than I anticipated. Just take it a day at a time and after insemination, even though they say you can go back to work the same day, still take the rest of the week off and relax. Put your feet up and don't answer the phone. We have our twin girls from IUI and I wish you all the luck in the world.x
