Okay wonderful Mommies. I have an IUD and for the last 4 years my period lasted like 2 days and would be so light I could wear a pantyliner the entire time. Last month my period came 14 days after the last one and lasted 9 days and was out of this world heavy. Now I am at day 28 of my cycle and at this point my period has not started plus my TATAs have felt full, and engorged and like they are on fire for nearly a week now. I havent nursed in 4 years so why do they feel like this. I have an IUD and have taken 3 pregnancy test that all came back negative. I talked to my OB and they said the heavy bleeding could be my body just getting ride of the extra build up. On top of it all I dont have any insuance right now so I cant just jump right over to the Dr. Could my IUD be messing up? Could it have fallen out? ( I have never been able to find my string, so i cant check it) Could it just be hormones that are messing with me? Am I the only one this has ever happened to? Could I have miss carried, or ewww mommies any advice would be helpful to me! Thanks in advance

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I am not pregnant, but turns out I have a Cyst. The dr said it can cause all this wackyness with my body. I saw the dr. Friday afternoon. He told me that if the pain and symptoms dont go away to come back and see him and he will do blood work and ANOTHER sono.

I have an IUD , on my second, and I have pregnancy syptoms, sore boobs, nausia etc. , when I would have my period. for the first few years I had the spotting then it stopped completely then every 4 or so months I'd have heavy bleeding.

I never got pregnant with it in.

Seriously...Patti M.??? your response is no help whatsoever. Does not even address the poster's question. I am sorry that your niece had a horrible experience with her Mirena IUD, but is giving YOUR OPINION of birth control, menstrual cycles and who is responsible for the prevention of pregnancy really necessary? No one who responded said that they had to have an IUD or that they felt like they had to have that responsibility.
My rant over...
Original poster: I have not had an IUD, so I have no advice other than seeing if there is a clinic/planned parenthood in your area that will see you.

Could you call your dr and tell them you don't have insurance? Maybe they could work something out. Or maybe you could go to a Planned Parenthood and see if they could check it? My first IUD I only had 18 months and never had a period. But my first period after it was removed was very heavy. I now have my 2nd, but I've only had it about 2 months. I completely understand the no insurance thing (I've been there!), but if you're concerned I would definitely call to see if they can work something out.

I also have the Mirena IUD. I have had it a little over 2 years now. My periods are very light like yours. All I ever buy anymore are pantiliners. I have not experienced the heavy bleeding part yet though. I too cannot feel my strings....even asked my hubby to check for me and he thinks he feels them but not quite sure. One thing I get that neither you or the other response mentioned is bad cramping sometimes. I often wonder if my IUD is not there anymore either. I haven't had any pregnancy scares thus far either. I have seriously considered having it removed but just like you I am without health insurance and fear I couldn't afford monthly birth control. The only reason I got the IUD was because it's cheaper for me and I don't have to remember if I took my pill. That part is really nice. Sometimes my breasts feels sore and rather huge as well.

I know this is of no help to you at all. All I can suggest is maybe calling a doctor and ask questions. I totally understand not being able to just rush off and see them.

Okay I know I sent you a private message in regards to Patti M's message but I can't help myself. Condoms?? Are you kidding me? Having no period or a very light one is indeed a plus to most women with an IUD but getting the IUD can also be done for other reasons as well. Like I privately told K., the day I married my hubby was the day I said BYE BYE to condoms. Those thing's are simply dreadful in my opinion and if there are other options of birth control than I would much rather go with those than CONDOMS......:)

I never had an IUD but i would see if ,like post above talk to your doctor about payments. Or could check and see if you have a plan parenthood in your area or the health department they usually have sliding fee dependent upon your income. Good Luck ;-)

Check with your insurance you had at the time. IUD insertion, issues and removal can sometimes be covered all in one. That's how mine was. Once it was inserted any follow up and removal is covered. No matter if insurance coverage is over or not.

I had the IUD in the past. This happened to me also and I DID visit the dr with concern. What was explained to me is that the IUD is approved for 5 years. Toward the 5 year mark you start to have trouble such as you describe. This does not mean that it is not working it just means that your body goes through hormonal changes from holding a "foreign object". No worries for me and the dr just offered to take it out and put a new one in, but also gave me the option to keep it in which I did for an additional 5 years.
