IUD Or Birth Control Pills

L., IF YOU ARE FINISHED HAVING CHILDREN GO AHEAD AND HAVE A TUBAL, IF NOT I WOULD TRY THE PILL, MY STEP=SISTER HAD AN I.U.D. AND AFTER HAVING IT REMOVED SHE HAD 2 MISCARRIAGES. WE HAVE NO SOLID PROVE THAT HER I.U.D. HAD ANYTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH IT, BUT NO ONE WE KNOW HAS AN I.U.D. just that you should know.

I have had my IUD for about a year. I no longer have a period just some light cramping. I love it. I have the plastic one so it is good for 4 more years. I would recommend it to anyone. It is the most convienent method of birth control that I have found. You don't have to think about anything. As with anything, you may not have the same experience using it that some women do. In my research, I found that the IUD is 99.95% effective in preventing pregnancy. I would say if you still had questions, talk to your GYN about it.

I have no IUD experience-- too scared from stories I have heard. I have done the pill, the patch, and am currently using a Nuva-Ring and it is by far my favorite. It looks like a little plastic bracelet that you insert and wear for 3 weeks. Easy-- one time a month to deal with it-- and I have had no side effects. The patch irritated my skin very badly. I have to take something for 3 months at a time without a period to prevent endometriosis and this has worked great!

I know I have responded to this before .... (someone else's post) but I LOVE LOVE LOVE my IUD!!! It is the best. I think you just have to try different things out to find what works for you. I mean what is a co-visit payment to see if the IUD works? If it does AWESOME ...or if you don't like it, tell your dr and have them take it out. It is just like any other b/c method .. you have to find what is best for you! GOOD LUCK

I had problems w/my IUD. I had A LOT of pain/cramping for months after my baby was born. It felt like labor pains so I had it removed.
You might want to try The Patch, I was on it before I got pregnant w/my youngest and had no trouble at all.

I am now 5 months pregnant after having my IUD for almost 2 years. I am the second patient my OB has right now who got pregnant while using an IUD. I had the Mirena and I thought it was fantatic until I ended up pregnant. Just know that they aren't as effective as they say.

IUD is definitely cheaper -- one $35 co-pay for up to 5 yrs of birth control vs. $35/month for birth control pills.

I LOVE my IUD. I don't have to remember, have no issues with it and I believe that it has been cheaper.

As said before and also from personal experience the IUD isn't really worth it. If you get the copper one it last 10 years however it has horrible side effects such as heavy periods and horrible craps. The plastic one that releases hormones into your body last for 5 years but I have heard of alot of people getting pregnant on it. My suggestion would be depo or the patch.

I have tried birth control, Depo vera, Neva Ring. After the birth of my daughter I asked my Doctor about IUD, he told me that he has had one case, and has heard about several cases of women who have a IUD, get TSS. It usually is associated with Tampons but because a IUD is place inside, you can get TSS with a IUD as well. The Nuva Ring was so hard to get to work I gave up on it. My best Friend had Depro and it caused her to have several sist on her Ovaries. The process comming off Depro was very hard for her and they gave her a slim chance of ever having a baby again. She did eventully get pregant but because of the damage done by Depro she had lots of complication and the doctor told her, if she wanted to see her kids grow up he suggest she not have any more children because of it. You ask any doctor Birth Control dose not make you gain weight, I have never gained weight on birth control, I gained lots of weight with Depro, and i have never heard of anyone gaining weight with Birth Control either. Try Seasonalle, you only have 3 periods a year and they are very light. Hope this helps let us know.

I gained 10 pounds each year I was on the Pill! I finally got the Mirena IUD & have had it for three years. There is no chemicals traveling through my whole body. It's the best thing ever! Plus I only had to pay my copay once - as for the pill you have to pay monthly.

Hi L.! I have had the IUD for about 4 months now and highly reccommend it (so does my husband :)). I now dont have to worry about taking my daily pill or worse-get pregnant!! My GYN told me that after the first year, most women either have a light period or none at all. I have had 1 period in four months and its great! It lasts for 5 years and can be removed if you decide to have children before that. As for how much it costs, it really depends if you have insurance or not. The actual procedure (which is done at your dr.'s office) is around $1000. My insurance covered all of it so I just paid my $35 co-pay.

I recently had a baby, October 2006. When I got pregnant with her I was on the pill, so obviously I do/did not want to get back on the pill since it didn't work for me. (I am done having children, I hope) I have done countless hours of research on ALL other methods of BC. I have decided to get the IUD, first and foremost it is BY FAR the cheapest in the long run. Also, statistics say that most people who get pregnant with the IUD say it is due to improper insertion. I say go with the IUD b/c it's the most effective out of all other methods, but yes, there have been some to get pregnant with it. Good Luck.
