I was just wondering if anyone has used this and if so what they thought of it. I just had my baby and my doctor suggested I think about this instead of the pill because of breastfeeding I couldn't go back on the regular pill. Any information you have had with this would be appreciated.

I currently have the IUD and I love it. I've had no problems with it and my cycle is very light with min. cramping if any at all. You don't need to worry about taking a pill everyday. If I had to say anything bad about it, I guess I would say that when they insert it you will cramp for about 1/2 hr or so. Take some advil and your good to go. I Love it...

Hi T.-I have had the Mirena IUD since July 2006. I had it placed about 8 weeks postpartum. There was initially a lot of bleeding for several months but then I went back to normal periods. I have had no other side effects like I had on the pill. I am also still breast-feeding. I also know three other women who have the Mirena and their periods stopped altogether after the first few months. This is normal for that type of IUD. Most people really like it and it is very reliable birth control. Hope this info helps.

I dont know if you can use this because you are breastfeeding, but I am on the Nuva Ring and its wonderful. Its a small rubberlike ring that you wear for 3 weeks and out for one..period week. I guess you could ask your Dr. if its OK. Its less permanent than an IUD, and cheaper, and easier than the pill.

Hi T.!
I have had 2 IUDs and really like them. The first one "fell" alittle and so I had it replaced. It is easy to have put in and taken out. No pills to remeber or shots to take. It is always there, so you have it when you need it. I went with the non-hormonal one (it is good for 10 yrs). I have tried most of the others options out there. The only thing I liked better is no longer available! I say get it. I haven't heard of anyone (these days; 30 yrs ago, yes.) getting pregnant while using one.

The IUD is awesome. YOu will have to get the one that has no hormones. After I had my daughter I also did not want to get on pills, so my sister told me to check out the IUD. I went to my GYN and spoke to him about it and he told me that he recommends it in place of the pill. I've had the IUD for two years and the greatest thing is that I don't have to worry about taking any pills.

It's the greatest thing!

Hi T.,
I have had 2 IUD's. One before babies and one after. I love them because you just don't have to concern yourself or worry about birth control however, there where a few drawbacks. The first IUD I had was without any hormones included in the device and for 2 days a month the flow would be really (really) heavy and then normal for about 3. The second was the 5 year device that does include the hormones and the flow was really light (about the same as with birth control pills) but there was a lot of breakthru bleeding and for some reason my body just did not adjust well with this one and I had it removed. I did not do well with certain (but not all) birth control pill either so that is probably just me. Overall I did better with the one without hormones and just accepted the heavy 2 day flow.

Considering the cost if the IUD's I am hoping this information helps. Good luck.

Hi T.,

I had m y IUD put in a year ago, and love it! I certainly recommmend it, if you're sure you don't want any other children in the next 5 years. If you think you might want another little one, I can also recommend NuvaRing. I usde it before Kenneth was born and was really happy with that too.
Good Luck!

Dear T.:

Just wanted to let you know, I had a baby, Luke, on June 19, 2006, and my ob/gyn recommended a Pill that I could take even though I was breastfeeding, too. I see Dr. Larain in Ormond Beach, Granada Boulevard. I was looking at something other than the Pill as I had never been on it prior to my pregnancy. I though it was great, however, I am now off of it, due to the fact that I never remembered to take it!

Good luck!

Hi T.,

i did have a IUD before ( the copper one) it was fine for a while (over a year)and then it slipped down and they had to re- insert it and then about 6 months later it came out again. my doctors thought my body was just rejecting it because of the copper and they took it out. they say it happens sometimes.

it was great when i had it and i dont remember having a crazy periods.

Good luck on your decision and congradulations on the new baby,
S.

I just had my frist baby 7 months ago and I had the Merina IUD put in 2 months after giving birth. It was uncomfortable to be put in, but I took advil afterwards and it was okay. I bled for about a month afterwards. Just a small amount, but enough to be annoying. After a month it stopped and I haven't had my period since. I breastfeed so I'm not sure which one cuased my period to stop, but I'm not complaining. We plan on trying for another baby in 2 years. My OB said that I could have it taken out and wouldn't have to wait to conceive. She said that most of her patients got pregnant rigth away. I am really glad I had it done. No worries at all!

hey there! I never personally used an IUD but just about everyone I know has used it, loved it, had no problems, had no problems when they had it removed, and conceived with no problem a second time. Plus you're period stops or is minimual. I was looking for some premanent after my second and got the new essure procedure which I absolutely love, piece of cake...if you are looking for a permanent fix or for when you get to that point

Hello, I'm A. D. I have had a Mirena IUD for the past 5 years and I love it! (It is coming out in Sept-5 years). Before I had the IUD, I had a very heavy period. With this IUD, I have no period and have not had any problems at all. It was recommended to me due to high blood pressure and I already had a child. I would definitely recommend it.

Hi T., Im not sure what your plans are about getting pregnant again. My midwife told me that if you used an IUD you would have to plan your next pregnancy b/c it could take up to a year to get pregnant once taken out. I was also breastfeeding and didnt want my milk to dry up but still wanted birth control so she put me on Camilla (she called it the mom pill). My daughter is now 91/2 mths and I want to get pregnant again next summer (better to have them close togethar I have heard). I too dont really want the hassle of taking the pill anymore but its the easiest way to get preggers again from what I am told.....

An IUD is just as effective (and, more importantly INeffective) as the pill. (1%-2% ineffective)
And if you do get pregnant, An IUD can cause an ectopic pregnancy. You have to be rushed in to have it removed. And can be fatal for you and is fatal for your baby.
Also, If you are anti-abortion, an IUD would probably be against you beliefs.

I hope this helps you, It all depends on you and your family.

I breastfeed and I, too, didn't want to go on the pill. (Although my Dr gave me a prescription for a pill that was approved for breastfeeding - I was still cynical) I also have a family history of uterine and breast cancers. So, my husband and I just use condoms and when we are 'done' birthing children, He'll probably just go in for a vasectomy.
