IUD As Birth Control!

I have an iud and i absolutly love it. I have had it for 2 years and have never had any problems!! A great way to go....

Copper-t loooove iiiiiittt!!!

I had one for almost 10 years with absolutely no problems. The only thing that bothered me toward the end was knowing something foreign was inside of me...otherwise, it's excellent! hassle-free and virtually fool-proof. :)

I had a copper IUD for 7 years - from the time I was 20 until 27, when I had it removed so I could try to get pregnant. I loved it. I hadn't had a child prior to insertion, so it was difficult to find a doctor who would do it, but I don't trust barrier methods and the hormonal methods were NOT working well for me (bad side effects). I loved it. I wouldn't say insertion was comfortable, but I was only sore for about a day afterwards. I had a few more cramps with it in, but nothing really significant. My periods weren't any heavier. As one previous poster mentioned, my husband wasn't thrilled with the wire. That was really the only downside that I had. You can always have one for 10 years, and if you still want to get fixed the doctor will probably be willing to do it then. For me, it was the easiest, least complicated and cheapest form of birth control I've ever used, with the fewest problems.

I am now pregnant with my first child, and have had no complications whatsoever.

i have it and LOVE it! I first had the Mirena (5yr w/ hormones) put in and all of a sudden about 1yr later it was HORRIBLE...I suffered with horrible PMS and other symptoms. So I took it out and am so happy withthe Paraguard (the 10yr one with copper). The paraguard says it may give you bad cramping and heavy bleeding but it is fine for me. The first two periods were crampy (but i did not mind..id rather that than horrible PMS) but it if fine now. It did not hurt to have it put in...my hubby and I are thrilled with the decision!

I have a Mirena http://www.mirena-us.com/index.jsp and here is a link from the site with information. What I love about it is that it is nearly 99% effective or better, yet if you decide to ttc again, there are no lasting effects when it's removed, you can get pregnant right away.

I've had mine for almost 2 years and the only problem I experienced was a very long heavy period a month or so after getting it. I think it was a combination of the hormones and getting off depo, which is the bc I had used before. I also was an exclusive nurser and continued to nurse at night for awhile, which effectively stopped my periods.

This is honestly the best form of bc I have ever used. I don't have to think about it at all, annual visits are all I need to ensure it's working properly, and I have experienced no side effects such as sleeplessness, weight gain, fatigue, or bone density loss (that was a listed problem with depo my doctor warned me about).

I was thinking about getting an IUD when i did research about it i decided not to. It kills the egg AFTER it has been fertilized. To me and what researchers were saying is that its like having an abortion every month. The thought of that to me was disturbing!! research it some and read about it. See if its something you really want to do.
I know many people who have had it (and got it taken out after they read about it and what it actually is) and i have a few friends that still have it and love it. Its a personal thing. I would say to just read about it, research it!
They do have the Mirena, a hormone based IUC.

I had the morena (5 year one with very low hormone)for 2 years and absolutely loved it. My periods got very light and then disappeared completely which was a very welcome added bonus. I had no side effects, no PMS or period, no discomfort for me or my husband (other than slight pain for about 20 seconds during insertion). The current IUDs are much different than the older ones that caused a lot of women major problems. I will definitely get another one when I am ready for birth control again!

My aunt had tons of complications and infections from having the IUD. "The IUD can be a cause of serious complications which include hemorrhage, pelvic infection, and perforation of the uterus. These may produce sterility. Major surgery may be required in some cases and death
may follow in a few." I've heard through friends of their family members also having complications and pain. This area of our body is so sensitive...just my 2 cents...I would look into other alternatives. Perhaps try a search on google for "holistic alternatives to IUD". Hope this helps :)

your doctor should have explained to you both the risks and the benefits (therefore giving you an informed consent). yes, the things that are mentioned in the previous responses can happen. but you also have to consider how often that occurs. most people that use the copper IUD have no problems.

so find out from your doctor about the statics. by the way, do you ever drive a car or walk places? you might be surprised of the chances of getting hit by a car and DYING.

My mother in law had this and was pregnant after 5 years of having it at the age of 45. It also made for a difficult pregnancy because of the way the IUD functions.
