Iud - Winchester,VA

I have 2 children. After my second was born I had an IUD placed 2 years ago. Since I have had the IUD I have never had a period. We want to try for baby #3 at the end of the summer. With my first 2 children we had no problems conceiving. We got pregnant after the first month of trying! My question is to those of you who have had babies after an IUD, how long does it normally take for your systems to get back to normal after having it removed? Should I have it taken out now and give my body 6 months to go back to normal. Or does your menstral cycle go back to normal within a month or two? I'm afraid to have it taken out too early, because I get pregnant so easy! I don't have maternity coverage again until October. But I am afraid if I wait it will take my system a long time to get pregnant. I don't want to wait a lot longer, because I want my kids to be close in age. I guess I am just curious what other woman's experiences were like getting pregnant after an IUD. Thanks.

I had a paragaurd (the IUD without hormones). After trying unsuccessfully for over a year I'm finally pregnant. You didn't state which IUD you had but since you haven't had a period from the time it was inserted I would guess you have a mirena. The information that mirena distributes is that users should have no problems getting pregnant after removal. It depends on how set you are on getting pregnant come October or if you could stand to wait for removal in october and not mind if it doesn't happen right off.

I had an IUD years ago and never missed a period. I would have talked to my doctor by now if I had not had normal cycles. Your cycles should be normal but you are protected, in most cases, from conceiving.
Talk to your doctor asap.

My best guess is take it out now and use NFP or a barrier method to prevent conception until you're ready again. I have never trusted hormonal bc (probably because I'm so sensitive to hormones). Also, think about a Paraguard copper IUD next time, no hormones and just as effective, also good for 10 years vs. 5. Period are a bit heavier and crampier with the copper IUD, but to me, it's worth it to have an effective and HEALTHY bc option. Just something to think about.

I have a mirena, my doc told me that it would take about a month after removal to get pregnant, about the same as the pill. good luck

I would wait until August or Sept. to have it removed/start trying since you don't have maternity coverage until Oct. The reasoning is that if you happen to get pregnant before Oct., the insurance company could claim that the pregnancy is a pre-existing condition and choose not to cover any of it.

I just had an IUD inserted and am of the opinion it should not take any time to be able to conceive. As a previous poster mentioned you did not state which one but with the paragard there are not hormones and it does not prevent ovulation. So I am thinking since you have been ovulating the whole time you will probably just continue to do so, the mirena may be different since there are hormones.
