I had Mirena (the one WITH hormones) put in after the birth of my first son - I discovered how it works.... by making sex so painful that you don't have it, therefore you don't get pregnant. I had over a year of misery, with my obgyn's office saying the pain I felt was overexagerated and not related to the IUD before another doctor pulled it out. Relief was almost immediate.
IUDs in general can also cause inflammation and scarring, which can result in complications if you decide to have another baby.
My only experience with IUD is Mirena and I hate them, I would have 10 more pregnancies before I had another IUD of any kind put in. But I hear other people love it.
