Dear L.:

Itchy ears are usually fungal. This is easy to resolve by using a product called Bio-Chlor-Dox: http://www.ndinutraceuticals.com/product71.html

2 to 3 drops per ear 4 times a day. The problem will be gone in a few days.

Good Luck:

Kim

Sounds like you have a canal infection. I have one right now as well. Your doc can prescribe a tube of drops to put in them. Should clear it up in a few days.

Try tilting your head and poring peroxide in your ear, tilted so it does not spill out. Hold your head in that tilted position and let the bubbles of the peroxide do there thing. My ex husband always had ear infections and all sorts of weird things going on with his ears. I had taken him to three different ear specialist. Out of all the expensive medication the only thing that worked was peroxide in the ear canal. Hope this was helpful.

Hi L.,

Is it itchy inside or outside? If the itching is in the ear, with or without a sense of fullness, you could just have some minor congestion, in which case an over-the-counter decongestant, such as sudafed, can clear it up in a few days. Antihistamines can also help, but they can leave a dried residue of mucous, which can then serve a medium for a secondary infection.

If you're having pain with or without fever, you could have an ear infection. It would be best to go see a doctor and get a proper diagnosis from someone with actual medical training who can see what's going on -- not from a bunch of untrained moms who should not be trying to diagnosis a problem based only on past personal experience.

If the itching is external and it's been going on for days, it can stem from the benign, such as an allergic irritation, dry skin, sun burn, or a minor bacterial or fungal infection, to the potentially more serious, such as an irritated nerve, TMJ, basal cell carcinoma, etc. Again, before you start applying random creams and home remedies, it would be best to see a doctor if you suspect something beyond something minor. Since none of us has or can see the irritated ear, no one's really in a position to offer meaningful advice.

Usually, itching in the ear comes from an allergic reaction. Take what ever anti-histomine works for you - Claritan, Benedryl, Allegra [sic] and see if that does the trick.

My ears always get itchy if I have allergies. Inside itchy is usually seasonal allergies and outside itchy I get from perfumes or lotions.
Try benedryl.

Are your ears pierced? Many people have sensitivity to nickel which is used in some earrings. I know that used to happen to me. My ears lobes would become red, hot and extremely itchy and it would even extend to the inner ear. You may want to throw your earrings out and only buy sterling silver or nickel free posts.

My ear gets like that when:
1) My allergies act up. Which I am allergic to dust/pollen
2) when I am sick or going to get sick.

Try taking an antihistamine. Like Claritin. That helps me.

When my ears itch I am usually having an allergic reaction to something that I ate. I am allergic to raw bell peppers and that will make my ears itch like crazy! When I have seasonal allergies I will also get itchy ears. It makes me crazy because it does itch so much. I usually use children's liquid benedryl, it seems to take it away quickly, but it knocks me out, so I make sure to take it in the evenings or if I am going to be home. I am also a lightweight when it comes to medication.
